New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton says in his book he had to give the team a Bill Parcells-type speech Super Bowl week
Five days before he came up with the biggest interception in New Orleans Saints history, cornerback Tracy Porter came through for his coach in a completely different way. Porter was the last player to arrive at Sun Life Stadium for the Super Bowl Media Day on Tuesday morning - one of five players who showed up late after having a relaxed curfew Monday night. And though Coach Sean Payton was agitated, he was mostly excited, because this was exactly the kind of "crisis" he wanted to help him set the tone for the week. Not sure he should have let the cat out of the bag about his "Phony" speech. Might be harder to rally the troops before super bowl XLV

Buzz SportsDayDFW.com sports Bio | E-mail | News tips New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton has high praise for former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells in his new book Home Team, calling Parcells "brilliant" and describing him as having "the best coaching instincts" of anyone with which he has ever coached. Payton paints owner Jerry Jones in a favorable light when relaying anecdotes of Jones describing Payton's value to the Cowboys' organization and advising him on his coaching future in the NFL. Payton spends two chapters of the 288-page book on his time as an assistant coach with the Cowboys. Here are a few Dallas-related highlights from the new book, which is slated to go on sale July 6: -- Payton says one of Parcells' best coaching jobs ever came in 2003 when the Cowboys finished the regular season with a 10-6 record and a playoff berth. -- Parcells discouraged Payton from taking the Raiders' head coaching position after the 2004 season.
