Who's your worst Saints ever.

The New Orleans Saints All-Time Worst Players and Team: Defense & Special Teams - Canal Street Chronicles

Here are some noteables.

By the way any worst Saints list without Fred Thomas on it should be burned like he was " over and over "

At one point before the NFC championship game vs the bear I swore I heard one of the commentators put up keys to the game with all the bears receivers on one side and a pic of Fred Thomas on the other

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

my pick would be a 3way tie between Josh "DEER IN THE HEAD LIGHTS" Bullocks Fred "Always break my arm" Thomas, and Tebucky " IM A BACKPACK" Jones

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

I think its pretty close between Jason David, Johnathan Sullivan and Josh Bullocks as to who is #1, but I think I have to go with David. Fred Thomas should have been put on that list as well like you said.

QBrees, wow....

What a walk down memory lane. So many to choose from.

I still can't get over this one...

P: Russell Erxleben - the Saints drafted him 11th overall and made him the highest taken kicker ever after he hit a 67 yard field goal in college. He ended up being an awful punter for about 4 seasons and could never cut it as a kicker. He attempted 4 field goals in his career.

They failed to mention that he costs us our 1st winning season and playoff appearance.

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

Fred Thomas' age caught up w him.

J David's lack of ability to play man put him at a disadvantage - he shouldn't have been out there to begin with...

Josh Bullocks just a below average player.

Sullivan was a bad draft pick. Period.

My worst Saint is Mike Ditka. That infamous draft cost a team more that one season - it took the organization several seasons to recover from that debacle...

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

With the exception of FF's choice of Erx, you guys aren't going back too far. Maybe y'all are just too young to remember people like Erxleben, Les Kelley (RB in college, but since he can't run, we will make him a LB), Shawn Knight (the big & slow & soft DT), Larry Burton (he's not a track star who plays football, he's a football player who runs track), & Rick Middleton (not even the best LB on his college team, but we picked him in the 1st round).

There were a lot of bad players long before David & Sullivan came around. I really want to forget about all those guys.

Right on, HouYat ... you could probably name 11 really bad former players and field a team ... not the Dream Team, mind you, but the Nightmare Team!

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

The worst pick was the one that was never made.

The expansion Saints sent their No. 1 pick to the Baltimore Colts for QB Gary Cuozzo, a quiet, 26-year-old dental student who had spent his previous four years as Johnny Unitas's backup. Cuozzo started the first 13 games, throwing for 1,562 yards and seven touchdowns with 12 interceptions, before losing his job to Billy Kilmer. The party ended after the season when Cuozzo was traded to the Minnesota Vikings.

In exchange for Cuozzo the Colts got center Bill Curry and the first pick of the draft.

QUESTION: Who did Baltimore pick with the 1st pick of the 1967 draft?

Hint: He went on to a All Pro career and acting career and helped Baltimore reach two Super Bowls.

US OLD GUYS REMEMBER WHO IT IS.

That's a start for the full eleven ... we need to field an entire team ...

My first guess on this was Bert Jones, but I thought it seemed the draft was a little before his time, and I didn't remember him doing any acting except for an old Miller Lite commercial. I had to google it to find out that it was Moses Hightower...aka Bubba Smith.

My vote is Richard Todd. He was suppose to be the answer and it turned out very bad. This dude was about as awful as it gets once he put that Saints uniform on.

I'd vote Alex Molden before Fred Thomas. Fred actually had a few good seasons before he petered out.

Yea Fred has a few pretty good years and actually played pretty well in a cast. He just played 2 too many years.

He's not the all time worst Saint by a long shot.

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

Aaron Brooks is hands down number one. Ass clown laughed after throwing our season away. The worst football IQ I've ever seen.

Jason David is a close second. Absolute toast.

Sully was a bad pick. Bullocks sucked.

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

Either fred thomas or jason david, in 2008 Jason david got better as the season went along. Just when preseason of 2009 came round, he showed he could not play for gregg williams aggressive style of defense, he got too used to joe gibbs sit back and pick us apart defense.

..continued from last post....

Richard "I-N-T KING" Todd
Toi(let) Cook
Tebucky "T-SUCKY" Jones
Willie "NO PLAY" Clay
Don "COKE" Reese ("Because I got high, because I got high, because I got hiiiiigh")
Victor "UNITED NATIONS" Riley (he has a lot of flags for jumping offsides)
Alex "LAME DUCK" Molden
Josh "MY GOSH" Bullocks
Cie "M*A*S*H" Grant
Stanford "RUMBLIN' BUMBLIN' FUMBLIN'" Jennings
Alvin "M-I-A" Toles
Joe "MMM MMM BAD!!" Campbell
Derek "NOTHING CHANGED EXCEPT MY JERSEY NUMBER" Brown (Honorable Mention #1)

Could also make a strong case for all the QB's during the Ditka era. Billy Joe Hobert, Billy Joe Tolliver, Billy Joe Collins, Billy Joe Wuerffel, Billy Joe Shuler, Billy Joe Nussmeier, and Billy Joe Delhomme...

He wasn't a bad player .... good name in Bubba, too!

... which brings to mind ... a list of players we could have gotten with the very next pick or two that went on to become all pros....

Hey Smash, the worst case of this that I can remember is when Bum Phillips took George Rogers and passed on Lawrence Taylor who the Giants took with the very next pick. His reason: if we have Taylor on one side of the field, the offence would just run to the other side. Buddy D's answer to that was "Well, coach, then you would only have to worry about one side of the field instead of both".

We did make up for it somewhat by taking Rickey Jackson in the 2nd round. I can only imagine what our defense would have been like with both Taylor and Jackson playing together.

Delhomme started all of 2 games EVER for the Saints...how was he the worst?

Brooks? Far from the worst...

I definitely put Jason David on there, though.

Ditka? Meh. I'm indifferent. Funny thing is, I always hear about how Ditka "set this franchise back" and did "damage that took years to fix" by trading his entire draft for Ricky Williams. But how? The Saints went 10-6 and won their first ever playoff game in 2000, which is only one season after Ditka "crippled" this franchise by drafting Williams in 1999. And they hovered around 0.500 even after that.....so it's not like they went back to being a perpetual 3-13 disgrace or something.

At QB a toss up between Richard Todd and Heath Shuler, MLB Tom (LeRoy Jordan's back up!!) Stincic, WR Jubilee Dunbar and Larry Burton, CB D'artanian (my foot slipped) Martin and Fred Thomas, P/K Russell (it's my holders fault) Erxleben. Glad those days are loooooooooong gone!!!

st thomas 07-12-2010 11:41 PM

Re: Who's your worst Saints ever.

the worst the saints ever had were russell erxleven simply because he was a punter and the no#1 pick, he actually cost us a playoff game way before we had our first 1. letting a punt to be run back for a score. he just unglued on the play. it were'nt so bad we did get to laugh all the way home after the game.
