Wide receiver Marques Colston will join fellow wideout Robert Meachem, safety Darren Sharper and linebacker Clint Ingram on the active physically unable to perform list for the beginning of training camp, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said Thursday.

Loomis added that he expected all four players to be activated in the next two weeks, with Colston and Ingram returning next week and Sharper and Meachem coming back about a week later.

Practice begins Friday with a session in the morning and afternoon.

“The active PUP list just means he counts on the 80-man roster and can be activated on to the regular roster and be able to practice at any time,” Loomis said. “What it really means is they weren’t able to pass the physical today. They’ve got a little time left in their rehab before they can be full go at practice.”

The news about Colston was a surprise because his injury had not previously been announced. Coach Sean Payton said he had arthroscopic knee surgery after experiencing discomfort during workouts earlier this summer.

I'm just surprised that we don't start half the the team on PUP. It doesn't count against the roster and we can keep more people around during training camp. I'm not concerned in the least.

I'm just surprised that they were able to keep this one quiet. Colston gets scoped and its not front page news. Speaks well of our inner circles. OK...what else have they been keeping under wraps?
