Patriots hold off Saints 27-24; up and down game for the champs
The New Orleans Saints stepped onto the field for the first time as the defending Super Bowl champions,
Drew Brees and the offense got the ball first after the Saints won the coin flip and chose to receive. A quick three-and-out though forced them to punt which caused the first problem of the evening. Punter Thomas Morstead came out and booted a 49-yard kick to Julian Edelman who returned it 40 yards. Morstead made the tackle but ended up slamming his left elbow and shoulder hard into the turf. Morstead would remain down a while before being taken to the locker room. He came back out a short while later, caught a few snaps, but then got his shoulder wrapped officially ending his night.
