Umpire Position Tweaks
The latest tweaks, made after a conference call that included members of the league's competition committee, include requiring the umpire only to be standing behind the deepest member of the offense, and quarterbacks can look at officials near the sidelines to get the go-ahead to snap the ball, rather than turn around and look for a signal from the umpire.

Anyone know when the play clock starts? At the spot of the ball... or when the umpire is in place?

The positioning is awful. So we can get the go ahead to snap the ball from the side line.........OK now it's fixed.

The play clock starts at the end of the play. The offense then has 40 seconds to run the next play. It is not from when the ball is spotted nor when the ref is in position. None of these things will cause a team to get a delay of game since it takes way less than 40 seconds to do.
It only affects how fast an offense can snap the ball. And that is where the teams are having an issue. IT really becomes a game changer because now it will allow the Defense to get in position if the offense is in a hurry up and trying to confuse the D or catch them out of position. I know it is just a couple of seconds but it maybe just enough for the D to get in a substitution. |

I'm glad they're trying to make changes because right now it's turning out to be terrible, but I don't know if it will be enough.

Another issue is that with the Umpire behind the Offensive back field, he will not be able to see Offensive or Defensive holding very easily... |
