METAIRIE – In the wake of an harassment investigation centering on the treatment of Mexican TV reporter INES SAINZ by the NEW YORK JETS, the NFL has circulated a memo to reiterate the league’s equal-access policies for reporters and to remind players to treat all journalists professionally.
Saints Coach SEAN PAYTON addressed the memo and issue with NEWORLEANS.COM on Saturday before embarking on a team flight to SAN FRANCISCO for Monday night’s nationally-televised game against the 49ERS at CANDLESTICK PARK. “It’s never been an issue and I haven’t even brought it up to our team,’’ Payton said. “In other words, there has not been a time this week where I’ve sat down with the team and said, ‘Hey, I want to remind you guys …’ I think they are very familiar with dealing with both sexes in the locker room on a week-to-week basis and we’ve never had an issue. “This just brings to light, though, potentially, ‘Hey, listen there are some things that you can’t do.’ But, it hasn’t been an issue and I haven’t brought it up.’’ Sainz, a reporter for TV AZTECA, was allegedly targeted at the Jets practice on Sept. 11, when drills were run in her direction before she received catcalls in the locker room. HORSE BUSINESS The LAST MANGO RACING STABLE (which counts Coach SEAN PAYTON and GM MICKEY LOOMIS among its consortium) is the proud new co-owners of a Chestnut Filly (still to be named) and a Bay Colt which they have named FLEURDEFORTYFOUR. Both horses were purchased at the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER SALE. Interestingly, the Colt came out of Barn 44 at Keeneland, was consigned by FORTY FOUR STAR SALES and his great grandsire is FORTYNINER. ROAD WARRIORS Going into Monday night’s game at Candlestick Park, the Saints own the sixth-best road record in the NFL since Payton’s rookie season in 2006. They are 19-13, including 7-1 last season. INDIANAPOLIS (24-9), NEW ENGLAND (23-9), NEW YORK GIANTS (21-11), SAN DIEGO (20-13) and DALLAS (20-13) are the top five. INJURY REPORT - MLB JONATHAN VILMA (groin) will start. - OL ZACH STRIEF (knee), RB CHRIS IVORY (knee) and LB ANTHONY WATERS (hamstring) will be inactive. read more |
