Friday Discussion: How The Falcons Stop Drew Brees
We all like to criticize Drew Brees around here.
Why wouldn't you? He's the quarterback for the hated Saints, for one thing. The media treats him like he was reborn with the humility and grace of Gandhi and Mother Teresa, except twice as scrappy. There's also the fact that he happens to be good while doing both of the things I've already mentioned, which has the hatedar beeping loudly. Still, just because we don't like the guy doesn't mean the Falcons don't need to be ready for him. It's going to take effective game planning from Brian Van Gorder and great performances from the entire defense to rattle Brees, throw him off his game and perhaps make him throw a couple picks. Don't be fooled by talk of a running game: The Falcons will win this game on defense by shutting down Small McLargeheart. Stopping Pierre Thomas is necessary and good, but stopping Brees immediately grinds the Saints to a halt. Their defense is not good enough for shut down the Falcons for four quarters. You know me. I love a good discussion. So rather than me tell you what I think we need to do—though I will say constant pressure would help a lot—you tell me what you think we have to do. The only way they stop Brees' is if he and the offense stops themselves. The offense has been out of sync the past couple of weeks and if that continues that's the only way I see them stopping us.
Now if the offense comes out clicking on all 8 cylinders; look out! Maybe the defense can figure out how to slow the ground game down and we might get away from one of those heart attack wins. |

Problem is that the falcons haven't faced a 1st string QB in there last 2 games. That is not going to give their secondary much experience. Plus Pitt and the Cards have 2 of the worst OL's in the NFL, so Im not sold on thier front 4. There LB look good tho.

I'm in the category of people who like to criticize the fair weather fans who whine about our players. Some Saints fans remind me of LSU fans. Fickle and whiney. Not referring to anyone specific in this thread. Yet. |
