Don't put the game in the hands of a kicker unless necessary. It was 1st down and we were driving it easily.

ya or could have fumbled or been int later, whats your best %'s as a coach?

kick it , its easy

he missed, but I agree with the call.

Saint_LB 09-26-2010 04:22 PM

When Payton opted to kick on 1st down, I was happy...didn't want to take a chance on a fumble or a pick. When he missed, I changed my mind.

Hindsight is 20/20.

st thomas 09-26-2010 04:24 PM

pound the rock till the clowns stop us, thats all i expected from coach. pound pt. till we are 4th down or td the hell with kicking it. we saw what could have happened from the last few games. and guess what were 2-1 not a crucial 3-0 and still ahead of the clowns. my take any way.

But considering, the odds of him missing the kick were better than a fumble or pick.

I'd rather have the ball in Brees' hands for 3 more plays than a shaky kicker for one.

your taking about a shaky kicker that made a clutch kick in the NFC champs game. I mean there is a 95% or more that most kickers make that kick.

I didn't consider him shaky until after today. He kicked us into the SB...and didn't he kick the winning kick only last week?

Halo 09-26-2010 04:34 PM

I have to say, regardless of the circumstance, I'm a little "shakey" when it comes to Hartley this season.

He just has not looked as solid as last season.

Yes he won it for us last week, but as someone pointed out, that kick looked tipped.

He could be our weakness this season.

st thomas 09-26-2010 04:35 PM

its hard to believe that payton lost faith in us holding on to the ball. it was a rookie he trusted to put in the game. ivory loss it. okay thats ivory not pt not evans not betts. on the other hand hartly missed more than we put the ball on the ground. and he went hartly and we missed it and were mad because of it. and it will all go away next week. but we can be upset. and should we bring in another kicker.

He missed 40% of his FG's before today.

I'd call that shaky.

Euphoria 09-26-2010 04:38 PM

Bye Hartley it was fun while it lastest. Cut him first thing tomorrow. So who is on the wavier wire.

So you put him in if Brees and our offense don't score in 3 plays, or even more if we get a 1st down.

I trust Brees and his boys on 1st down at the 12 more than just about any kicker.

CheramieIII 09-26-2010 04:40 PM

Look at the game winning field goal against the 49ers and then look at the one he missed today. The look almost identical. He's overcompensating for something but coach should have corrected that after last game when he almost missed that one.

all true halo but we know coach payton does'nt like to part with his draft picks.

Bring in who?

What kicker that's so good is just sitting at home waiting for a call from an NFL team?

I'm being serious, I don't know of anyone just "available" off top of my head. They're all playing for other NFL teams.

so seriously Danno, are we N.E. and letting go a vinatieri go? I know it hurts, and hes messing up, but that the answer. I hate hartley today, because we won easy, and SP made the write call and we lost.

in 2009 vinatieri got colts into the SB, this the road we want to take?

hartley Fd up, we lost, it was an easy kick, he Fd up

Weren't you a kicker...why not you?

The defense should have played better all around. Run defense was porous. Atlanta killed us on 3rd down (something like 50% conversions), and the Falcons converted TWO 4th and 2s on that late 2nd quarter touchdown drive. The secondary was RAPED by the big play. Gonzales had a field day catching the ball, mostly in the first half, but the damage had been done.

Offense looked inoffensive at times. We didn't run the ball very much or very effectively- 16 attempts for 43 yards. We lived and died by the home run ball, and that killed us. Yes, Lance Moore had an 80 yard grab for a TD, but Brees also gave up an INT on a deep pass, which just killed the drive, and a couple more missed/dropped deep balls which led to 3 and outs.

Penalties! Stupid penalties all over the field. How man pass interference calls were there on us? Ayodele's horse collar tackle on 2-1 from our 1, it would have been 3rd-1 instead of 1-1.

Time of Possession: ATL 45:50 NOR 27:15. If you can't continue drives, you can't score points.

We beat ourselves, and have only ourselves to blame, NOT JUST the kicker.

The return game was kind of our only bright spot. Moore's return in the 1st quarter set us up for an easy 6 yard drive to score.

I'm not for cutting him. There isn't much better available.

I'm simply against taking the ball out of Drews hands on 1st down and giving the ball to a kicker who's 3-5 for the year.

If it was 4th down, or probably 3rd, I'd have given it to Hartley, but not 1st down.

But that's my point Strato, if we had taken care of things, we wouldn't have had to give the game to Hartley in the first place. Twice. Yes, Hartley blew it, but his was only the last in a string of failures all game long.

hey they were no bull. saw this on ifc

st thomas 09-26-2010 05:11 PM

were'nt they the who

saints1234 09-26-2010 05:23 PM

its in Hartley head, he just keeps kicking bad. 29 yards!!!!!!!! you could pick 50 college kickers out of a hat and all 50 of them will drill that kick!! Hartleys a pro and hes not acting like it. Sean P better make sure hes worth keeping around.

I said we needed a new kicker last year when he went on a missing streak and I got beat down....

He had some "big play" goals, but he really does suck. Whats his % this year, it cant be over %70? And I mean with in 40 yards!

winmill1 09-26-2010 05:47 PM

What about Kris Brown. He is a pretty solid Place kicker, he just got beat out by Neil Rackers. Bring him in for a tire check. Lots of experience.

winmill1 09-26-2010 06:58 PM

I maybe bring someone in to let him know we are serious. Maybe just work a few guys out.

DrewDat 09-26-2010 07:44 PM

R.I.P Hartley's career in N.O.

cajun911 09-26-2010 07:57 PM

I think we need to at least start looking at other available kickers. Hartley is just too inconsistent for me to be comfortable with. You can 't ride on his accomplishments last season. Even though we played badly in some areas, the game came down to a chip shot field goal that he missed...and that's the bottom line.

We need LSU's kicker lol

I do think he's cute, but I don't think placing the blame solely on him is right.

I'm just playing... I couldn't agree with you more. Stuff happens.

Sadly, if you could point to one play, that would be it. Sucks it came down to that. Hartley has the potential to be a good kicker.
