The New Orleans Saints on Tuesday terminated the contract of linebacker Clint Ingram, one day before he was expected to begin practicing after spending the first six weeks of the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed via e-mail to The Advocate late Tuesday night that Ingram’s contract had been terminated, but did not elaborate on the decision to release the five-year veteran. Ingram signed a one-year contract with the Saints in May after the Jacksonville Jaguars in late April rescinded a $1.266 million tender offer they made to the restricted free agent. Ingram apparently wasn’t happy with the one-year offer made to him and let the deadline to sign the tender pass, which led the Jaguars to take the deal off the table and make him a free agent. Ingram, who started 46 games for the Jaguars from 2006-09, came to the Saints after having knee surgery, however, and was not able to take part in their June minicamp, nor was he ready for the start of training camp in late July. He may not be ready. Slow is the problem right now. I'm just guessing - evaluation and team physician reports weren't very good. I wish him luck. If he's still hobbled, or palying through and fighting through pain, it would be just a matter of time until his pain becomes ours.
