Saints defensive end Willie Whitehead gave it his all this past Sunday, and now the NFL is recognizing his effort.

According to Saints spokesman Greg Bensel, Whitehead will be named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday by the League office.

The five-year pro had a career-high three sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed, to go along with five tackles.

After the game, Whitehead actually had to be hospitalized for dehydration after temperatures in Tampa reached the high 80s at game time.
