Saints coach Jim Haslett compared the old AstroTurf playing surface at the Superdome to a used indoor-outdoor carpet.

The surface was usable, but it was hardly ideal for blocking and tackling.

When Haslett strolled onto the Dome's new AstroPlay field for the first time Tuesday, he finally felt like he was walking on a real gridiron in the Superdome.

"It looks like a football field when you walk in there now," Haslett said.

And most important, it feels like one.
