Sizing Up the Playoff Field

The following is from an article by Don Banks on SI's website about many team's chances of making the playoffs. Here's what he had to say about the Saints:

• New Orleans (5-5): Just when the Saints fight their way back to break even, they look up and see trips to Philadelphia and Washington looming. Here's a switch: If New Orleans can make it to December in decent shape, the season's final month just might rescue their season this time. Three home games and only a trip to Jacksonville awaits.

Playoff projection: It's just a hunch, but I think the Saints beat out the likes of Green Bay, Dallas and Tampa Bay for the NFC's final wild-card slot.

I don't know whether to be happy that somebody is recognizing that the Saints really do have a shot or whether to be worried that this recognition might be another hex in disguise. It's gonna be tough, but if they can go 5-1 in their remaining games, the Saints can make the playoffs.

I disagree that we're going to beat out GB for a wildcard spot, though. I'm thinking GB will win the North and Minn will miss the playoffs. Minn has looked bad and their 4 straight losses is more telling about the team that their 6 wins to open the season.

Also, here's a link to SI's site that shows who would make the playoffs if the season ended after last sunday. I believe Dallas and Minn are in trouble and that is where we'll get in as long as we keep winning.
