I too was worried that the Colts would win in regulation however before Porters pick there was over 4 minutes to play, so if the Colts did score we still had enough time to go down and score.

How so? The Saints were up 24-17 and the Colts were driving for the tieing score when Porter sealed the game with 3:12 left.
Worse case screnario, the play results in a TD for the Colts and the score is tied with 3+ minutes left in regulation. Barring a turnover or a 3 and out by the Saints, there was plenty of time for the Saints to mount a drive, drain the clock and score at least a FG. |

Colts score, we try to win it, pick six for Colts, we lose. Colts score, we turn it over, Colts kick GW FG, we lose. I've seen the Saints snatch defeat from the jaws of victory my whole farking life. I wasn't convinced we'd win until 0.00 showed on the clock. I'm still kinda new to the Saints NOT screwing themselves out of a win. |

I never worry about what COULD have happened because the permutations are infinite. What if Porter hadn't picked off brett favre? What if Hartley hacked the NFCC kick like he did the tampa bay kick? What if our defense doesn't score twice against the jets back in September. We won and we're champions. That's all that matters.

after every game during the regular season, i could see something magical happening. my hope grew game after game, week after week. i first mentioned it to my buddy, also a saints fan, after beating the jets in week 4 (i believe it was). it was then that i first brought up the fact to him that this could actually be our year. him and i have always been your typical, pessimistic saints fans; having a lifetime of letdowns will do that to you.
week after week, my optimism grew. it was the miraculous comebacks against the dolphins and the redskins. but, it was the new england game, when we cold-clocked the perennial powerhouse and dynasty that is bellicheck and brady, that really had me believing. my exact words to him after that game, "are you ready for this?" i wasnt sure if i was ready. at the time i was 28. i had been a saints fan for as long as i've been watching football, which would take me back to the early 90's, the dome patrol days. i had been let down by the saints so many times, it was part of who i was. it was everything that being a saints fan meant to me. their failures had only made me love them more. it was what made me proud to be a saints fan; knowing i had always stuck by them. i knew he knew exactly what i meant by that question because he grinned and shook his head a little he wasnt sure if he was ready for it either. i mean, dont get me wrong. i knew i would see the saints in a super bowl SOMEDAY. but, so soon? i always expected to be an old, grey, and crippled grandfather when that day eventually came. but, truth be told, deep-down, i KNEW there was something special about that season. it had to be our time. there was too much magical things surrounding our team. it was that look that brees had in his eye when berman interviewed both he and manning at the same time. i posted on this board after that interview about the look brees had in his eyes. while berman was interviewing manning, brees was staring down manning like a mad-man. he looked like he was an angry little man and wanted to kill manning. i could feel his hunger. so, did i think we were going to win before the tracy porter pick-6? the answer is yes. it went against everything i had previously known of doubting the saints, but, yes. i could feel it. its that strange intuition that some of us longtime fans get before every saints game. we, somehow, just seem to know they're going to win or lose. well, that day, although i was full of my regular pre-game anxieties, i had that good feeling about the game. then, it happened. the porter pick-6. one of the most important plays on the greatest day in saints in history. 2/7/10. the greatest f'ing day ever! |
