1 Attachment(s)
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has terminated the contract of tight end Jeremy Shockey.
“I’d like to thank Jeremy for the contributions he made to our team during his time in New Orleans,” Loomis said. “These decisions are never easy to make and we wish him the best in the future.” Update: Saints release Shockey |
saddened, but not surprised.
sure would like for him to stick. he's productive and inspirational. |
i saw this coming with how well Jimmy G played this season, but i would have still liked to see him play another year

BREAKING: Fox Sports Jay Glazer reports Saints are terminating Jeremy Shockey - New Orleans New Orleans Saints | Examiner.com
CONFIRMED: I got the actual message from the Saints' about 20 minutes ago, Shockey is gone. |
This is frustrating...
We gave up significant draft picks; though he was key in the Superbowl Run... But this was coming; we knew it; it is done... Jimmy Graham...don't blow it... |
Too fragile for his desire. I looked for him every down, and so did defenses.
Best of luck. you're always a Saint, Jeremy. |

You never know... it's possible we re-sign him at a discounted rate. It's not like his market value is at an all time high and I can't see anyone paying him a good value salary given his production and inability to stay healthy. That said, it's Jimmy Graham time baby! I'm excited.

Man i can't believe it, i knew it was coming though.
Shockey; Your fire and intensity was evident as soon as you caught yor first pass as a saint and bowled over a couple of Buc Defenders. Everyone here will thank you for your production and basically having the tenacity that this Offense needed. Best of luck, you were one of my favourite players shockey. |
Thanks for the ring shockey, hope he comes back at a cheaper rate cause the Saints had one of the best 3 headed monsters at TE in the league last year
|
Predictable cut, just didn't want to see it.. but i was already positioning the pillow's for the blow.
|
If he told New Orleans bye on face book. Think he thinks he is getting resigned?
|
Just wondering who's going to match his intensity and swagger on offense now
|
Only a crumb of a chance the team will resign him... i just hope Falcons don't sign him, they seem to lurk in our shadow's and want to be like us while kicking dirt up in our faces, like the Evil cousin no one likes.
|
sad to see him go, but it was inevitable. one of the best things that can be said about him is most who were worried about him coming on board can now admit they were wrong.
in the big picture of things the saints save 4.7 mil plus a 500k roster bonus with this cut. money we can use, hopefully, to keep pierre or moore around a little longer. at the very least it goes to drew, but we all know he isn't going anywhere. |

Losing his replacement to IR in preseason is what bit us. |
Really sorry to see him go! Had my doubts about him when he first came to the Saints and also the reputation he supposedly carried with him, but have to admit he became one of my favourite players on the Saints team.
Good luck to you JS and thanks for everything you did for this team. I will always think of you as a Saint, wherever you go to! |
He earned a SB ring with us and outside of injuries did his job. Hopefully he will come back as a bench player.
|
I'd like to see him back for depth. Graham is the future though and Thomas is a great versatile back up.

I think more what he meant is that Fujita's insight was crucial in the game against Cleveland. What he told them about Brees's tendencies led to that defense dismantling our offense. It most certainly bit us in the ass. We were a revolving door at OLB anyways. At least Fujita was solid and stayed on the field. Not nearly as much of a liability as Shanle was this season. EDIT: I sure am gonna miss Shockey though :( |
with Graham and Thomas at tight end this is very predictable
|
I'm a bit shocke(y)d, myself. I didn't really see this coming. Having said that, it would be nice if the Saints were clearing financial room for Pierre Thomas or someone like Shaun Rogers.
|
Actually this move helps Shockey. If he doesn't sign with a team in the near future, he will be locked out if there is a lock out and not able to join a team. This could really hurt his future.
Having said that, other teams may shy away from him due to injuries. He still may sign with the Saints again although it is very unlikely. If no teams comes calling with a big contract, I could see him playing for the Saints for 2 million next year. |
Excited for the future ... future = Jimmy Graham !!!
|
Very good inspirational player much like Fujita gave a lot of character to the team. Looks to me like the injuries were starting to dog him. Also must be tough for SP he plucked him out of The Big Apple and restructured his career.

This is awful. My momma is crushed. Dat's her boo!

|
Reggie will bring the wood this year!!I'll bet my lamboargeeney on it!did I spell that wrong?lmao I really hope Reggie lights it up next season!I'll also admit I hated Jeremy's antics when he was ripping us apart!!man I used to get pissed! He's now one of my favorite all-time Saints players!:bng:

I would of love to have him still on the team, but I love what Graham did for us this year. Hope he keeps it up.
|
say it ain't so bng say it ain't so. shockman u taught a few what it took to be a contender and a shot at big time. i jumped on that beer cart dawg and held on. u were in my book a man that would walk the walk and talk the talk.i myself knew the time was coming and ducked everytime someone started the sentence that u may be gone. WELL BUD U BROUGHT IT HERE SHOCK, U BROUGHT IT MAN. I HOPE YOUR LEAVIN IT. COACH PAYTON KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING WHEN HE SIGNED U IN THAT TRADE. THANK YOU MAN FROM ME TO MY FAMILY TO MY 4 YR OLD GRANDSON THATS SCREAMS YOUR NAME. U THE MAN. GOOD LUCK WHEREVER U LAND.
|
Will miss Shockey. Sounds like no hard feelings either way, and that ring is his forever.
|
No surprise, best of luck to Jeremy Shockey. He wasn't an integral part of the offense, but he made some tough catches during the 2009 season and helped us win the Super Bowl. I'll always have a favorable impression of him for that.
Graham has all the makings of a star, but I am a little worried about our depth at TE now. Thomas isn't a true TE, and Dinkins is not going to cut it. |
Shockey was key in the Super Bowl. I will always be great full for him He was awesome. I wish him all the best. Ypu will never be forgot it NEW ORLEANS SAINTS History. Jeremy many Thanks
