A lot of folks think the New Orleans Saints might take a running back in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Several mock drafts have Alabama's Mark Ingram going to New Orleans at No. 24. The conventional wisdom goes something like this: If Ingram, the former Heisman Trophy winner, slips past the Miami Dolphins at No. 11, he could plummet to the bottom of the first round, where the Saints would select him to ostensibly solve their rushing woes. There's only one problem with this theory: It's folly. Full read below. If he is available, and the Saints think he is BPA, He will be drafted.

Vaughn Dunbar, Craig Heyward, Chuck Muncie, George Rogers, Leslie Kelley.
Of all these first-round RB picks, Bush is the only one that was selected by the current regime. I honestly don't think they will draft a first-round RB unless, as aquaboogie stated, he's the BPA. This could be one of those infamous smoke screens we all see leading up to the draft, but I would honestly be shocked if they drafted a RB in the first round. |

Beanie Wells... ahh the wonderful memories of month long worthless debates. Wherever saintsmissile may be, I bet he's still sniffing Beanie's jockstrap before he goes to bed.

There is absolutely no need for the Saints to even consider taking a running back in the first round. It was a total fluke that all of the Saints' starting running backs (and many non-starters) ended up injured last season. What they need is a big defensive end! With Chris Ivory, Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and possibly Lynell Hamilton, Julius Jones, Ladell Betts or even PJ Hill, I think the Saints backfield will be just fine.
