New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said he is in favor of both of the major rule change proposals being voted on today at the NFL meetings inside New Orleans' Roosevelt Hotel.
Payton, who is a member of the coaches' subcommittee on the competition committee, said he expects the kickoff rule proposal to be tweaked before it goes up for a vote. He definitely expects the touchback to remain at the 20-yard line after coaches and general managers resisted the idea of moving the touchbacks up to the 25. But he does expect to see a vote on whether or not kickoffs will move up from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line, with players on the kickoff team being required to line up within five yards of the ball.
