Let's imagine Peyton Manning was our QB this year. Now answer these questions.
1. What do you think our record would be? 2. Would Peyton be as successful under McCarthy as he has been in Indy? 3. Would the Saints be a legitimite Super Bowl Contender? 4. Would Haslett suddenly look like a great coach? Just curious to what everyone thinks. I won't be commenting. Just want to know. [Edited on 8/12/2003 by BillyC] |

1. Who knows, we still have the Haz and McCarthy factor here. But I do think Peyton could get the ball to Conwell better, throw touch passes and not deliver the ball so high that the WR\'s get hammered everytime they go across the middle. So I would guess we\'d have done better. Even though let me be very clear I have absolute confidence in Jim Haslett\'s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
2. Hard to say. I think with the running threat Deuce provides and Peyton\'s mastery of the play action pass, McCarthy\'s playcalling wouldn\'t be so predictable. I think teams would have to worry more about the passing game on 1st and 2nd downs. 3. I think our secondary is suspect and would probably eliminate us from the Super bowl. I think our offensive line is suspect, I\'m not sure if they would play harder/better for Peyton or not. I do think they hadn\'t played together long enough to be a very good unit for the 1st half of the season at least. I would guess we\'d be a playoff team though. 4. Anyone who wins looks like a great coach. But let\'s turn it around a bit, if Tony Dungy had Deuce and our receivers and Conwell I think Indy would be a lock for the super bowl. Similarly, I think if you gave Tony Dungy Aaron Brooks, there\'s no way Indy would be leading their division. |

1. Better than 6-7. There\'s no right answer here but I would give at least two wins with Peyton. That makes us 8-5 or better.
2. Probably not, but he wouldn\'t be much worse. He\'d still be a premier player. 3. They would have been last season. I don\'t know about this season, but they would be a legitimate playoff contender. 4. Great? Doubtful. Good - probably. The single greatest flaw Haslett has in my mind is his insistance that AB is a good quarterback. |
