Is Loomis the best GM in the NFL?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Loomis is vastly overrated; though, he's smart enough to keep his trap closed and let people wonder if he's an idiot rather than 'open his mouth and remove all doubt'......

I'm baffled by this comment. What makes him overrated? What would make anyone even think he could be a closet idiot?

Please, elaborate.

Mickey Loomis has quickly become one of the better recognized GM's in the league, NFL Network credit him for alot of our success over the past couple years.
One thing that i love about Loomis is that he has a knack to getting players that have been overlooked, outcast or told they cannot play any longer and they always make a great impact on our team.

E.G - Pierre thomas, Jeremy Shockey, Darren Sharper, lance Moore, Marques Colston, Jabari Greer, Newest one (Jimmy Graham)

Just some of the players that have come out of small schools and have been overlooked or told that they are too old to make an impact in shockey and sharpers case.

He has a knack for signing players on the cheap and is one of the best dealing with the media. As for finding talent on the cheap, that has more to to with the scouts and coaches. It's like the duck gliding across the pond. It looks effortless but it's those little dirty feet under the water working overtime.

I can't speak for jp, but I can understand why he would make that statement.

Let me back-up for a second, though and make this statement. I find it most annoying that during a time that our team has been the most successful ever and gone as far as to win it all...I cannot be as happy as most of you are. I have always been a fan of Archie, or a fan of Bum, or a fan of Kilmer, or a fan of Ditka... blah, blah, blah...the whole time. I have always liked the guys both players or management...and it made losing bearable. Now that they are clearly winners I am struggling a bit because I really don't care too much for Payton, or Drew...and yes...even Loomis...but it isn't there performance that I don't like it is the demeanor. Each one of the guys mentioned have some little quirk or two that rubs me the wrong way.

Getting back to Loomis...he hasn't always made the right decisions. I think he gambled in a major way when he hired both Payton and Brees...and then drafted Reggie knowing it was going to cost him. It paid off, though, and he looks like a genius and I feel a little foolish...but like I said, it is not his GM ability that rubs me the wrong way...just like Payton it is not coaching and Brees it is not playing QB. For Loomis...I can't stand the way he sounds when listening to an interview of him over the radio.

Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!
