Are We a Better Team Without Reggie?
Since we've drafted Reggie Bush we've had one of the best offenses in the league. Sure that was mainly due to Sean Payton and Drew Brees more than Bush but a lot of the offense is designed around defenses keying on Bush.
Bush's value was evident when a "Health Bush" helped lead us to a Superbowl victory run. I'd hate to see us lose any of the RBs based on last season. Personally I take Payton at this word and I think/hope RB will be back in the B&G next year. Question: How much do you think our offense will lose w/o Reggie? |

Payton's Comments on Reggie....
(On Ingram serving as security if Reggie Bush does not return) “This selection is really a selection that has no bearing. Reggie has a certain skill set, and there are things that he does that we value a lot. This is a runner who, I would say is a much different style. I wouldn’t even begin to look at how it will affect Reggie’s status with us. I have said this before, and heading into this offseason, the importance of the talents that Reggie has, he has been a big part of what we have done successfully in his first five years.” |

No way!!!Having RB is a weapon that any team in the NFL would die to have. If of course they know how to use him the way we do.

In short, no. And I know this will not sit well with many Saints fans who want to categorize Bush as a bust. But his versatility, and ability to draw more than one defender to him, when healthy is what makes our offense EXOTIC!!!!! With out him, we are ATL with better formations.

We are not a better team without him. We have proven we are a team who struggles to keep a healthy stable of RB's. It never hurts to have more depth and options, let alone a guy who presents mismatches against certain defenses. It makes it very difficult on a defense to face 3 or 4 guys with so diverse skill sets and abilities. Ivory justs shoulders you for a gain and hits the hole hard. Thomas is stunning out of the backfield in the screens and is so hard to bring down. Bush attacks you with speed and makes you account for his position as a receiver, and if you forget he may take a pitch to the outside he can roll off a big gain. Throw in Ingram and you have a guy you can grind with in tandem with Ivory or Thomas and make us a more balanced offense.
Think about it. If we had the ability to pound out 1st downs without having to pass, Brees would decimate defenses with the play action the way we did our Super Bowl season. It's back baby. It's back. Reggie makes us even more scary. He just needs a pay scale relative to his contributions. |

I am the first one to bash Bush week in and week out and argue with anyone who thinks he is going to have a "BREAK OUT YEAR".
I think a lot of people are fooled to think he is a feature back and is going to be a great running back. Fact of the matter is that he was never those things. What we drafted was a PR/KR speedy, quick slashing slot WR. If we keep that perspective than he is one of the best in the game at this role. So do we need him YES! This is a horrible question. Of course we need him. We didn't do anything without him! Once they figured out how to use him and he keeps his head in the game come on he is sick with skills and can make big plays happen when we need them. I don't think we drafted Ingram because he was a RB I think we drafted him because he was the best player on the board and next years draft we won't be able to get a player like him so take him with that pick now. RB position gets beat up year in and year out and these guys don't have long careers so get a few good ones to help prolong their careers and benefit us longer. Injuries last year was exactly what we needed to prove this. Besides having a RB's like we do with very different styles so game situations and opponents we'll have different weapons for the occasions we need them. |

Reggie Bush WILL be back with the Saints for 3 reasons:
1/ He likes the organization and coaching staff (particularly Payton). 2/ If the Saints were to release him because the team didn't offer him enough $$$$, how could Reggie expect to get much more from another team (after all, he is not a full-time RB, WR, or PR)? Part-time players usually do not command mega salaries. 3/ Reggie would want to have a chance for more Lombardis. The Saints are among the few teams that offer that. |
