Way too many people compare Saints with Reggie versus Saints without Reggie.

A better comparison would be comparing the Saints with Reggie versus the Saints with another running back we could acquire for his salary, or even his actual value.

A 53 man Saints team with Reggie is obviously better than a 52 man team without a top replacement at his position.

Maybe there is a player that can run better than Bush, but what if he sucks at protecting Brees?

Then he won't get any playing time.

This was interesting, if you apply his factors per touch, instead of per game played, Pierre Thomas has better stats. Remember PT was a back-up with limited touches for a while.

TD's per touch - RB .043 / PT .047
Yards per touch - RB 5.35 / PT 5.46
Fumbles per touch - RB .013 / PT .003 WOW!!

The yards per touch stat is amazing for PT since he has less receptions than Reggie (more tha 1/2 less). Receptions typically yield more yards per touch than rushing.

You have to look beyond the numbers to see the real value with Reggie. WR, slot WR, RB, Scatback, kick returner, punt returner...that's a lot of responsibility for one player.

And he does all those task better than fair and always has the physical ability to hit it out the park. Add to that he's a good blocker and opens up passing lanes for everyone else, I hope he stays a Saint, atleast for 1 more year just to see if handing over the baton to Ingram and PT on the running b/t the tackes would allow him to focus on specific duties and get some real consistency.
Crusader and strato like this.

Beyond the numbers, huh?

Look at the numbers again. They decrease every season. How is that "value"?
