I haven't read everyone's post yet. I would assume no one is bitter against Bush or anything. This is good news.
I was just checking my emails on yahoo and saw the report on yahoo.sports. AP Source: Dolphins trade for Bush - NFL - Yahoo! Sports I know someone psoted thisone. I am only reading this link. I am not reading the other 10, whatever number links out there. I don't care. I don't care to read them all and I am happy he is leaving. The guy is not happy here anymore. He has had some injuries. He has his career and wants to make the most money he can before he retires. It is just business is business. Bush won and earned a SB ring here. He did earn it. He was a major factor of the team winning that SB. Last year, he was injured a lot, is older, and he doesn't want to be here. Fine. If he wants to go, good. If he feels his future , financially and otherwise , is with another NFL team, fine. From a Saints fan point of view and I am hardly an expert, the team needs to find a younger FB, one who wants to be here, can be molded into the current coach and teams' plan. In other words, the team needs someone new as well. Someone less costly. I think it is good Bush is leaving. Different take from me about his leaving. :bng: |
I was hoping we could restructure his contract and bring him back. When he was healthy, our offense was much more dangerous than when he was on the sidelines. I wish him the best and I'm glad he's not playing for a team in our division. Guess it's time I change my avatar...
|
Now, I went to read others' posts.
Yeah, most of us are fine with it for all of the reasons you all listed. |

He knew his touches were going to be limited with the Saints...whereas his touches with Miami could provide him a greater opportunity in his next contract! Loomis once said...turnover is approximately 25% each year. This year Bush was in that number! |
I'll miss you, Reggie! Have fun soaking up the Miami sun. And then the cold winter temps in the northeast! :p

ok Later Reggie but WHAT ARE WE GETTING OUT OF THIS DEAL! LOL! Can't wait to see....I'm hoping it's players and not late round draft pics
|
I know there are a lot of Reggie haters on this board but I'm always going to think of him as an important piece to turning this franchise around. I know in the 06 draft we got players who contributed more on the field and signing Drew a month before was the best move this franchise made. But drafting Reg gave this franchise and fan base a huge morale boost when it needed it the most. Even after signing Brees, tickets sales were still down and talks of relocation were constant. But when Reggie was announced as the second pick; sales went up, the team played well and we've been rolling ever since. When looking back at this wonderful stretch we've had over the last 5 years, it starts with seeing videos on youtube of people celebrating our pick of Reggie. For everyone it's different, but for me I associate the start of all the positivity surrounding this team with the day we drafted Reg so I'm disappointed to see him go and wish him the best.

This move is going to put bigtime pressure on ingram to produce early.... I have no doubts about lance's abilities, but he hasn't been signed yet either...
|
Didn't we lock Moore up for the next 5 years?!
|
I've posted some pretty negative Bush comments and I gotta admit I'm a little sad and relieved at the same time.
His highlight films are priceless. Great for the team and the game. Thank God for YouTube! AKS |

Reggie gave us some great memories and was part of every Saint fans' dreams of a Superbowl victory. Good luck in Miami Reggie. |
Sorry... been out of the loop for a while.... but ingram definately has all the pressure squarely on his shoulders now.
|
It would have been nice to keep him if he would have restructured his contract, but on the bright side we just freed up 12 million dollars.
|
Good luck in Miami Reggie. I will still wear my Bush #25 jersey from time to time.
One thing I do not like about this trade ... why was it a trade-and-sign rather than a sign-and-trade like the NBA teams usually do? Seems to me this way the player's agent can hold up the trade longer than needed. Reggie's market value is what is it is at this point and dollars are pretty much the same, whether it's the Saints or the Fins. Maybe something in the new CBA prevents this? |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This really makes me sad :(
|
Papz, I understand the difference between "tough love/constructive criticism" and being a hater. I know plenty of members on this board are tough on Reg but aren't haters. But, there are a lot of people who are Reggie haters.
Sometimes success isn't measured in yards and touchdowns and I think Reggie falls in this category. He did a lot of good for this franchise and I wish him the best. |
Which ex-Saint will end the better Dolphin? Laid back Ricky or Reggie?
2002 16 games 383 carries 1800 yds 2003 16 games 392 carries 1300 yds 2004 Self medicated 2005 12 games 168 carries 743 yds 2006 self medicated 2007 self medicated 2008 16 games 160 carries 659 yds 2009 16 games 241 carries 1121 yds 2010 16 games 159 carries 673 yds |
I'm not trying to be a douche but I do believe you're exaggerating the amount of "Reggie haters" on this board. If you could even name a handful, I wouldn't consider that among the masses.

I'm glad we traded him, so at least we got something, rather then cutting him.
Bush has always been a factor when he played, sometimes a good factor...sometimes a bad one. Bush will do good in Miami if he can stay healthy. |

I know it's business and I know the production wasn't there but I remember Draft Fest when we took Reggie. There were people hugging and crying like we won the Super Bowl. I have some friends in Metairie and I spent a fair share of time helping them right after Katrina. When I think of the hope Reggie brought, the energy, and the extraordinary rise in ticket sales I can't help but feel bad he's now gone. He gave a regional team a national face and gave the Saints a popularity it had never had outside the Gulf Region at a time it needed the popularity. Reggie may not have lived up to the hype but he was the perfect draft choice for that city at that time and he was a key piece in delivering the Saints it's first Super Bowl. For that, I will always be grateful. I'm just glad he's not only out of the Division, but out of the NFC. That way I can root for him and wish him well. The fact he put them in a position to get something for him instead of being difficult allows him to leave without putting a bitter taste in my mouth. Thanks Reggie and good luck. |
I understand.
Money is important. Getting the biggiest contract he can find on the middle to end, more end of his career , is important. Saints have so much to offer and no more, plus they need to buy other positions.Goodluck to him. He was a big key part of Saints historic SB win. You always have rebulding in football due to players/coaching staff changes. RB is going to Miami. Too bad he could have the end of his career here and a steller one if he wanted to play like the SB season or play again for his best season ever. You have to feel a slight bit sorry for him. I know, how can anyone feel sorry for him with his millions.Playing for Miami, the media, fans, and team are expecting him to be a SB player and take them there. Only thing is he did that here, but he had something called a Drew Brees. Something called a Tracey Porter. Hmm... HC S. Payton with his G.Williams. The timing and all the ingredients were there. RB is going to be under so much pressure. Gottafeel a lil sorry for him. What happened to that guy,Fujita? Yeah. RB could call him. (I know he went to Cleve.) |
I know alot of people are going to say that Bush was probably better off within the Saints system or something like that, but tbh I simply disagree. I think Bush will probably be a lot more productive with another team, though this isn't saying anything bad about Sean Payton's schemes or anything.
The way our offense is built, it's more designed to have a complementary/consistent running game And why I am in no means calling Reggie Bush a Barry Sanders, if anyone remembers Barry Sanders he got 15-25 carries a game... many of which were for losses. In our system, with the style that our offense is built around, Reggie couldn't get touches that he needed to break one every now and then and actually figure out ways to use his abilities. The thing about that style of back is they actually learn throughout a game on what angles to take on certain defenders, and how to outmaneuver pursuers. There are many other factors that played into his low numbers including injuries. TBH though I wouldn't be surprised to see him flourish in Miami. |
It's been fun Reggie. You will be missed.
|
I wonder what Payton's reaction was to Bush leaving for the Dolphins?
He probably already knew what the FO was going to offer Bush and knew that Bush wouldn't accept it
|
Yep. I bet he and Mickey are two, three, even four steps ahead with their "if then"scenarios." They have to be.
I continue to have a LOT of faith in the decision-making abilities of Sean and Mickey; along with the support they are given from Rita and Tom. Who Dat!!! |

Now he can join the "Ricky Who?" club... and those of you who
were RB fans can now get yer MacFarlane (sp?) action figures REEEEEEAL cheap! : D |
Honestly, what do I think Payton's reaction was? Well I vividly remember the look on Sean Payton's face during the second half of the Seahawks game, when Bush was on the sidelines with some (at the time) mysterious unspecified injury, and you could see Payton's playcalling card with all kinds of stuff literally scratched out on it with a Sharpie...and going into the game we had no other running backs to speak of, and all week long Reggie had been talking about how that was supposed to be his big breakout game, and his chance to shine in the spotlight and carry the load and finally be THE MAN and everything else... I kinda held my tongue about it at the time, didn't say anything much, but I knew in my gut Reggie was gone right then. Once you become invisible to Payton on the sidelines, you're history with him. It's happened to plenty of players: Joe Horn and Michael Lewis, for two examples. They just became invisible to Payton. I honestly think Payton has been more or less planning on a Reggie-less universe since that long flight home.
|
I wouldn't have been surprised if it wasn't already discussed internally in bits and pieces the year before. Everyone knew what he contract was going to be and we're a very well ran organization. Payton was a big say in personnel decisions and people were only fooling themselves into thinking he was really going to come back. If he was an absolute necessity for our offense, you bet we wouldn't have traded him over a mil or mil and half. They were well prepared... it's far from a shocking move.
|
I just want to know what did we get for him
|
If we had not won the Super Bowl, I think Reggie would have been gone last year.
|
I'll miss Reggie. We forget he helped to save the Saints & keep them in New Orleans. He scored a lot of touchdowns, and kept us on the highlight reel.
|
I'm sad to see Reggie go ONLY because I wanted to see him realize his potential in black & gold. I wish him luck in Miami.
Now I've stated this numerous times with little reaction - Reggie's knees are not healthy. He was scoped in the offseason and let's just say that there's a reason he only signed a two year deal. Like the Drew Brees signing, we'll get the best of this deal. |
great memories...best of luck Reggie.....
all the talk of ingram/sproles/ivory...lets not forget about PT |
