Did a little looking and all I saw was that John Clayton said he is considering retirement if no contender makes an offer to him IMO give it a day and the Eagles will sign him

I'd be all for it, but, like most of the big name free agents, he'll end up with the Eagles.

Kreutz looks like he wants a contender and 4 mil per annum...

Ravens, and maybe the Saints, would be in play, but he'll have to rethink the 4 million part...

But alot of people could play Center between Nicks and Evans and make the ProBowl...

How can we afford him and we couldn't pay Goodwin. How much was Goodwin asking for.

Adam Schefter

49ers reached agreement with center Jonathan Goodwin on a 3-year, $10.9 million deal, including $4 million guaranteed.
I don't know how much Kreutz wanted from da Bears, but I guess he might be willing to go for a 1-year deal to improve his stock and have a shot at the ring... and maybe even with a slight discount.

But if Tennant is performing in the camp as good as the more positive reports are claiming he is - then the more gap friendly and the more future-minded decision would be to let him play. At least he'll have all those veterans and pro bowlers around him.

Sounds like a plan FinSaint. Might be better to go with the youth. I'm a little worried about the depth behind him thou.

Well, as discussed earlier... we do have two other centers on the roster at the moment even though they are more camp bodies than anything else: Cecil Newton and Ryan Taylor.

As for their talent level or overall abilities goes... who knows? At least Jeff Duncan of the TP mentioned Ryan Taylor as someone who could play both center and guard in his report of the UD rookies. Like you mentioned Crusader, not much depth or talent at center it seems.

And just to add... as far as I know the plan was all along to go with Tennant a year from now, so if Goodwin wasn't available for a 1 year deal - as he surely wasn't - then I don't see this as a serious loss for the team's roster. He'll probably pick up the "game" faster as it is when put in real-life situations as to him watching Goodwin from the sidelines.

This is where the "no practice in pads" rule is going to hurt the Saints. How are we going to get our rookies up to speed by the start of the season? It's like learning how to ride a bike by reading instructions in a book.

I was under the impression that they'll work with pads on today when the signed veterans join the practices? Not sure though...

Anyway, as for Tennant, his reps aren't going to go down with the introduction of the vets like with most other less experienced players since he is the No 1 center on the roster. And, furthermore, It'll surely help him to go against the "big dogs" not that SR isn't a whale of a man.

As a further side note from the TP comments section,

Saints would love for Tennant to take the job, and undrafted rookie Ryan Taylor take the backup C/G job. Both of those salaries together would be less than 1 mil. It would free up much needed cap room to go after other bargain veterans and help us to have the money to keep Brees, Nicks, Colston and Porter, who are all in contract years.

Saving money is never a bad thing, right?
