this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Chris Reis. He's on the depth chart now as FS behind Jenkins, but I think his main role is gunner on special teams. I'm glad to see him back on the roster so far this year. He'll forever be remembered ...

He'll forever be remembered for coming out of the scrum pile with the ball after the onsides kick during our superbowl victory.

Lorenzen. With his size and Graham's there are no LB's or DB's that can out jump them in the endzone or anywhere else for that matter.

I don't actually think Lorenzen is a long shot, I have heard coaches, the players and media all talk about him like he basically has the #3 TE spot locked up, and the way our offense uses TEs, we definitely need 3. Chris Reis is one of our only impact ST guys, so I don't think you can really call him a long shot, if the season is like the last two, he may just get a contract for that alone.
Joique Bell is a tougher proposition...4 RBs is a good number, with 5 we are now talking about taking a spot from somewhere we need more depth, like safety, however seeing as each of our 4 guys looks to get 10 touches a game, it isn't beyond the realm of reason that we keep him for depth. If I had to choose a long shot for the roster, it would be him. If we are talking about long shot starters, I am going with Martez Wilson, he has the talent to be an impact OLB, which we desperately need, I just hope he can pick up the defense and stay healthy in the preseason, and he should have a really solid chance of starting. |

WR Joe Morgan - He could be our starting second baseman for many years to come ... oh wait . If he makes the team or the PS he has an instant nickname - "Big Red".
S Jon Amaya - could he be more than a throw in for the Reggie trade? Might be hard for him to make the team w/ special teams favorites like Prioleau and Reis also at safety. Oliver from the Chargers also has starting experience and probably will make the team, so Amaya could easily get squeezed. Hope he can bring some speed and play-making ability to the secondary and special teams. QB Sean Canfield - We need the QB depth during preseason games. With Chase Daniel reportedly playing better, we want to make sure he stays healthy too. Kind of pulling for Sean because Oregon State has a reputation for hard-working and reliable players like former Laker AC Green. CB Fabian Washington - This guy had a great career as a Husker. He might be a bit of a longshot with some of the depth we have at CB. Hope he can contribute ... we don't need another Bullocks. TE Michael Higgins - From Nebraska-Omaha (UNO Mavericks). Probably a camp body but UNO is due for another player to make it in the NFL like MarTay Jenkins. DE Jeff Charleston - This guy is the king of the preseason, plays his butt off and has somehow barely stuck around with us. Kind of a longshot with all the DL depth we have now. The guy has intangibles. |

You can take Charleston off of your list, he already signed a tender this year, so he officially has a roster spot unless something insane happens.

Signing the tender doesn't guarantee he makes the team. He still has to earn it or can be cut just as easily as anyone else.

This doesn't exactly match the long shots you guys are talking about, but I am making my favorite long shot for the roster Darren Sharper.
