He's a good backup, since Brees really doesn't need anybody challenging him in order to compete at a high level. Sometimes competition at the QB spot can be a good thing, but that obviously isn't the case in NO.

I'm not sure if he's the future - of the Saints or any other team for that matter - but Brees was very complimentary towards Daniels when he spoke to the media about him early in the camp. Naturally that could be just Brees trying to build him up, but there could be something to it.

Just based on what I've seen from him I don't think he has the skill-set to be/become dominant in any particular aspect of quarterbacking, but he can turn out to be a reliable #2 with emphasis on game-management. I guess only time will tell, but at the moment I'm content with him being the #2.

On the other hand, I'm slightly more optimistic about Canfield.

The info. I'm "privy" to was watching him the two times I saw him
(first day of camp, last day of (public/NOLA) camp, make mistake
after mistake and he looks extremely underweight and in need
of some soup
and more weightlifting to me. "Big arm"? I didn't
see it. Maybe he didn't bring it with him the days I saw him.

Now that's funny right there.

Pretty much agree with this with exception of the Canfield expectations. I don't think he'll ever crack more than a 3rd string in the league.

Chase has very limited experience in game action, but he does bring alot of traits that remind of Brees. Having a back up QB who is of similar stature, plays a similar style and can essentially be groomed to become a poor man's Brees is a nice comfort zone for the offense to at least see some consistency of style should we ever be unfortunate enough to suffer a fate such as Brees going down.

He likely will never be our long term answer should we lose Drew, nor may he ever be anyone else's long term answer for a different team. But if he can be our Jeff Hostetler or Brad Johnson, a guy who can step in and win in a pinch without massive drop off or propensity for overzealous rookie mistakes, he may be the perfect back up answer.

We have Drew so that is the best we can hope for. A number two just good enough to keep us afloat when needed but not good enough he is highly desired elsewhere.

His biggest asset right now to the team and himself is his salary. But, he does have skills. If he was forced into action, I believe he could get the job done. He's fiery and does seem to have leadership skills. He can also make a play with his legs.

Lets just pray it isn't a problem

I actually feel pretty decent with Chase Daniel as the number 2 guy. I feel he is probably the best number 2 QB that the Saints have had in a very long time. If Brees happens to go down, I think Chase could come in and keep the team going. Especially with the way the Saints defense is looking so far, and greater emphasis on the running game, all he would have to do is pretty much manage the game and things should be fine.

Give Daniels another year working with Drew and he will be able to step right on in there without skipping a beat.

Actually, Brees did start out pretty great. He didn't start his first year, and with the exception of one injury shortened season he had 3000+ yards and 60%+ completions year in and year out. It did take Drew a few years to get to the level he is at now, but you don't just start out as one of the best of the best anyway. There was nothing shoddy about Brees in SD.

They drafted Rivers because their GM has a big head and wanted a guy he drafted under center. That is also why they kept Rivers over Brees. Schottenheimer wanted to keep Brees over Rivers and was so adamant about it he was fired. Obviously that worked out well for them.

No, I sure as hell don't have to accept that. You can tell I don't have to accept that by the fact that I don't accept that.

Kind of harsh to bash the kid like that after watching him "2 days" don't you think?

No, no, no. "2 days" doesn't go into quotes because it is a reference to 2 days. There is no alternative meaning, so the quotes are useless. Why is it bashing him if it was true? If he was making bad decisions all day, WHY is it bashing to say he was making bad decisions all day? I don't get it. You made judgements off of seeing one preseason game on TV, but someone else who has seen more of this guy playing can't comment on what they saw because it was only two days worth of practices? That is silly. And, since you have only seen him for "1 preseason game" (That doesn't go in quotes either, I'm just mocking you) by your own qualifications for commentary all you should be allowed to say about him is his name, number, and position.

ill be surprised if sean CANTfield even makes the team.

Hopefully not an issue. Daniels does make suspect throws when under pressure. He's a good number 2, but not the future.

What I meant by it was that I'm optimistic about him mainly because I haven't yet seen enough of him to make an educated assessment of his abilities, and secondly 'cos I want every Saints player to turn out to be a gem of a player.

I'm not saying he's going to ever be a #1 QB in the league nor am I saying he'll even be better than Daniels... I was just making the point that I'm hopeful at this point in time, until proven otherwise.
