Wow Billy, you\'re starting to sound like me! Now do you understand why I said what I said at the beginning of this season? Seriously, no crap, I\'m just saying I was at the point you seem to be at now at the end of LAST season. You colored me negative, but I think I just saw this staff and this team for what it was.
Honestly, I just started this thing about Delhomme b/c I knew it would start talk and there hasn\'t been much on this board for a while. You\'re right though, Haz is definitely the problem, not Brooks. I will say this though, both quarterbacks in question COMPLETELY embody the teams that they play for. Delhomme is undertalented and overacheives. The guy plays with heart and people believe. Brooks is overtalented and underacheives with a lazy demeanor and approach to the game. Sound like the Saints to you? I guess that\'s the part that hurts the most to me. What this team really needs is a leader who will inspire them and bring them to the next level. Maybe it isn\'t fair to ask Brooks to be that guy just b/c QBs tend to be the best leaders elsewhere, or b/c his former backup is that kind of guy. The thing that frustrates me the most is that we gave up a player that could be an emotional leader on this team who had the one thing we need most: heart. Now, we\'re stuck going 8-8 and smiling about it. (hey we all express our anger differently right? ) |

Delhomme!!
I was frustrated at the end of last season also. But the team played well for a huge portion of last season. They failed down the stretch, but we had Brooks and Deuce both injuried. I think winning masks a lot of problems with a team and last year, I didn\'t pay as much attention to things like McCarthy\'s play calling. I also gave Haslett a free pass on the players he shipped out of town. It was hard for me to find too much fault in the coaching staff, when we are leading the NFC in scoring....
As far as Jake goes.............. Well, he plays with emotion, but emotion is only going to get you so far. I really don\'t see Jake as being anything other than an average QB. I could be wrong about that. Would it really surprise anyone if Jake had a bad year next season? It wouldn\'t surprise me. Jake has a long way to go IMO. In any event, Brooks is a better QB RIGHT NOW than Delhomme is. Jake has had a few good games, but that\'s about it. Jake clearly has not carried this Carolina team, but has managed it well. That\'s not the kind of QB that I desire. I do see why you felt the way you did heading into this season though WhoDat. My apologies for giving you a hard time. I didn\'t say I was going to stop giving you a hard time though. I\'ll continue to give you hell, when I can... I love a good arguement... |

One QB for a particular team & offense may not work for another team. Also, a team w/ so many fumbles and turnovers won\'t win games no matter who is running the show.
Maybe Brooks isn\'t a good leader. Maybe he can\'t pump the team up. I think he\'s a talented QB who just needs to pull it together. Coaching may be the problem. |

Brooks could be one of the great all time sandlot football quarterbacks . He can improvise and throw on the run . In a day when offenses are geared towards precision passing on a timed route and a quarterback needs to make all the throws , Brooks comes up short .
For the position that the standard has been , consistency , leadership and talent , Brooks seems to be missing some main pieces to the Brooks quarterbacking puzzle . The N.F.L. scouting report on Brooks read : What the scouts are saying . . . AFC scout: \"He\'s not a detail guy. I get the feeling that Brooks isn\'t a worker or a studier. That scares you for a guy who\'s going to get barely any practice reps and will have to learn in the classroom.\" NFC scout: \"Maybe there\'s some hope for him as a wide receiver. He\'s a great athlete. Horrible quarterback.\" |

Well Billy, if we\'re worried about RIGHT NOW then I ask you this - coming into this season did you feel we had the weapons to go to the Super Bowl? I certainly did. But not the leadership or coaching. So if you can sacrifice a guy who MAY BE a star DOWN THE LINE for a guy who is efficent and smart and a LEADER RIGHT NOW, then I do it. I wouldn\'t trade Brooks for Delhomme right now, but I would have at the beginning of the season. We don\'t need a QB who can do it himself on this team. It certainly doesn\'t hurt, but especialy coming into the season I thought all we needed was a guy to deposit the ball to all of our weapons and make as few mistakes as possible. We\'ll see what happens - that\' sall that we can do right now. Maybe Brooks\' problems do stem from poor coaching... or maybe he\'s just dumb.
