I love Drew. Great player. Great guy. But, look at the Colts. They pay Payton $23 mil, who like Drew and Brady deserves it as much as anyone, and then they have to fill out the roster with some very average talent. If Payton doesn't play, they realistically might win 4 games this season. If Brees gets $23 mil, guys like Strief, Henderson, Rodgers, Franklin, Porter, and possibly W. Smith will not be Saints next year. They simply can't pay everybody. As much of a blessing Brees is to the Saints and New Orleans, paying him that much does have a downside. That being said, the deal will get done and it should. LOL.

I thought Canfield was ready to step up by what I saw from him versus the Titans... would save a lot of money.

I don't think this will be a distraction for one of two reasons. One-Drew signs a reasonable deal soon. Two-Drew down plays it. He is smart enough to understand the economics.

Yeah, these negotiations always get blown out of proportion. Most of the time the player isn't even involved. They discuss what they want their salary and benefits to be and then the agent adds 25-50% and goes from there. The FO says how much they aim to spend and the negotiators cut by 25% and go from there. In this case, because Drew is such a bigger deal than any other Saint before him, and Benson is such a notorious cheapass, naturally that separation is going to be much larger. It isn't going to take them too long to cut through all of the bullcrap and give him about as much as the Mannings are making.
