My Take On Game One

I'm going to be brutally honest. Our tacking sucks. Period. This isn't new...been a problem for years. It still is. The first guy rarely makes the stop. One cut and we're smoked. Every play. Ever time. Few exceptions. This seems like it should be easy to fix. Why isn't it fixed?

I'm going to be brutally honest. Our oline sucks. Period. This isn't new...been a problem for years. It's time to stop questioning our backs. NOBODY since Deuce can get that half yard or yard. It's not the back. It's the line. Period. Drew makes them look better on passing plays. For all the money we pay our interior guys, we sure do fail a lot when it counts up front.

Can we get a new equipment guy? How we came out of that game without 10 broken ankles is a feat in and of itself.

We are a very good offense in spite of our oline issues. Clearly we have heart. No doubt our defense will perform better against lesser offenses, but we were embarrassed tonight.

I am encouraged because I have faith that out D will get better. I can say this because it would be difficult to play any worse than we did tonight. GB is good. Our D made them look much better.

I should also be said that, somehow, as bad as we played, we managed to damn near pull it off but for our inability to run block and a very questionable play call on the last play of the game.

I am disgusted, but not without hope. This one will take some time to get over.

:bng:

Choupique 09-08-2011 11:03 PM

Where did you play college ball?

Wait, let me rephrase that.
Did you even graduate from high school?

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:04 PM

I would not go as far as embarrassed. The D did not play well, but we were going against one of the best offensives in the NFL with no tape on them. Except from last year.

The fumble killed us.

Tackling is pretty weak.

Also O-line played pretty well against one of the best pass rushing D's in the league. Could they be better yes.

We were playing against the superbowl winner in there home. We lost by 8.

Choupique 09-08-2011 11:05 PM

I saw some tackling. You guys focus on the negative a lot.

My generation calls that being a whiner. What does yours?

Cory9289 09-08-2011 11:06 PM

Awesome game, D looked bad but hell the Packs do that a lot. I'm sure they'll get better as things progress.

Euphoria 09-08-2011 11:06 PM

No tape on them???
We have 3-4 years of tape on them.

They beat us... they were the better team and clearly deserve to be SB champs.

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:07 PM

Yes no tape, The teams change year to year dude. New players are added to the mix.

saintfan 09-08-2011 11:09 PM

I give GB all the credit in the world. Clearly they were prepared for this game and we had to go up there and play the world champs in a hostile environment and all that.

The facts remain regardless. We MUST tackle better. We are going to have to live another year with an oline that will fail often on short yardage. I'm sure Sean will adjust his play calling accordingly, but why he wasn't already aware of it is a bit of a mystery to me.

SaintPauly 09-08-2011 11:11 PM

Guys, honestly, all of the positions that were supposed to be upgraded, didn't look any better than they did last year. I was looking for Charles Grant out there! Our secondary looked absolutely pathetic. By a measuring stick? They are the SB champions! If we can't judge ourselves by this game, which one can we? Tired of excuses on defense. Jenkins is a helluva player, but he is not the caller that Sharper is. Experience would have been a major factor tonight. I say sign him tomorrow.

Maybe, but they didn't do anything we weren't expecting. Cutback runs work against us last year. They still do. We still can't get any pressure unless we blitz like hell and that seems to fail more than it doesn't.

Not the Packers they didn't change that much except for adding COBB.

They had plenty of tape to what the Packers did at the end of the season and all thru the playoffs. Hell great example was tonight they did exactly what won them the SB. No surprises except COBB.

Even our D lived up to expectation... horrible.

And agreed... Play calling was terrible....

|Mitch| 09-08-2011 11:14 PM

What I took from the game:

Offense is good!
Defense is bad!
Special teams coverage is bad!
Sproles is pretty awesome!

alleycat_126 09-08-2011 11:15 PM

Well as a result of the championship season we are strip happy. It's cool when it works. But if it doesn't, we look like goofballs. Offense looked good. 08 Drew looked to be back. Hitting receivers in stride and leaving it all on the field. Halftime he looking at the D pics like he f''' d up. WE GON BE FINE!!!! OLINE GOTTA GET PUSH and I would get joique for all the short yardage situations from now on.

SaintPauly 09-08-2011 11:15 PM

And I apologize, but I can't accept this. We played terribly. And I have had it with the special teams screw ups. That touchdown, was a major factor in this game. Get it together, or find a coordinator that can... He's had his chance...

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:17 PM

I agree the special teams coverage is still pretty bad. But that return was pretty lucky, he did a good job of staying on his feet.

Drew threw what should have been 3 INTs tonight. Just sayin...I love the man. He IS the team, but still...

Joique ain't gonna do any better behind that line than anybody else. The problem is the line, not the back.

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:18 PM

BJ is a beast for the pack

Beastmode 09-08-2011 11:21 PM

Their defense sucks too. We were in the game until the last play. They also had no miscues on offense. I'm not bowing down to Mcfatrthy. We can beat them, it's not like they blew us out the water. I kinda espected it without Moore and Smith. They are game changers.

strato 09-08-2011 11:21 PM

Dont forget we played the world champs on their ****ty field...almost tied it..i still say we go 13 and 3 ..our D will get better with Will back and gel as the season goes...this game is history..

Cruize 09-08-2011 11:21 PM

Negatives - Herring is horrible.
- King and Charleston are not worthy of roster spots.
- Williams called a horrible game.
- Ellis, Rodgers, and Franklin were owned tonight.
- Special teams coverage units are not good.
- Bad tackling.

Positives - Sproles was a steal.
- Kasay was money.
- Henderson caught everything.
- Their were no injuries.
- As good as Green Bay played, and as bad as the
Saints played, the Saints still had their chances.

I'm smokin what you're rolling Strato, but nothing has changed. We still can't tackle worth a damn. We are fooled by the cutback every damn time. It's like faking a throw to your dog. Stupid dogs never get it. Smart dogs figure it out. We still haven't figured it out. We still experience short yardage fail. It's a virtual certainty every time. Sure, we'll mop up on the weak teams and we'll have better days, but we have a LONG way to go if we plan on playing in the last game of the year...a VERY LONG way to go.

I though that 12(MC) was looking a little hurt after that last catch. but didn't hear anything from SP..

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:28 PM

Now it is even harder to tackle because you cant launch yourself now. So smaller guys are going to have to beef up.

SaintPauly 09-08-2011 11:29 PM

I'm sorry if I'm not acting like on of those tee ball coaches, who say's "everyone's a winner! Let's all have healthy fruit!" When it looks like it, smells like it, then that's what i call it...... Maybe I need to find a more "hostile" discussion group..... lmao.... :)

Marlboro Man 09-08-2011 11:32 PM

Harper? I told you so.
Colston? I told you so.

Attempts to fix the D-Line: FAIL
Believe me, Will Smith would not have helped this piss poor defensive display.
Attempts to fix the ST: FAIL (With the exception of Sproles, Reggie Who?)
Attempts to fix the LB Corps: Did we even try to fix the LB Corps? Is age catching up with Vilma?
Attempt to fix the C position: FAIL

Absentees: Shaun Rogers, Aubrayo Franklin, Roman Harper, Sedric Ellis, Malcom Jenkins (1 good hit is not a game), Patrick Robinson, Tracey Porter, Marques Colston, our ENTIRE LB CORPS.

Seriously though, yes, GB was and is the better team. We have regressed instead of progressed. GB deserved to win this game.

Yes, it's a long season, and it just got a lot longer tonight. We better get out there and sign Sharper and Hargrove and yes maybe even Brown back.

Sadly, the Texans exposed us in that second PS game. Stop New Orleans screen and short passing game and we're done. SP's playcalling oh well. I don't think we even really tried to run the ball tonight. Well, before seeing this game in live fire, I thought we'd go 12-4 sadly it looks more like 9-7, with an 0-3 start. But hey, it'll be entertaining.

Euphoria 09-08-2011 11:35 PM

I don't see why all the post game opinions...

We are the same team we were before the SB.

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:37 PM

we scored 27 on O. Against a top 5 D, cant complain there.

The D still needs alot of work, need to generate turnovers.

SaintPauly 09-08-2011 11:41 PM

Chemistry.... I'm not seeing it.... The defense actually looked like, at one point, that they didn't actually care... They knew they couldn't stop them, and they had accepted it... No fire, no sense of urgency on defense... That's the DC's job... He gets an F in my book for this game.

Maverick2299 09-08-2011 11:44 PM

I agree Gregg Williams needs to do a better job.

strato 09-08-2011 11:46 PM

i guess G.W needs to suit up....lol

good call SF i can't seem to put into words how ashamed i am about our defense only because on paper i saw what i wanted to see. but when it gets down to the nitty gritty as they say and we preform like this. i'm not taking this loss litely because the experts say were not supose to win this one. i'm seeing a great reciever at 1 time going to the pits, and 1 reciever coming out of his shell. the o-line is the same -o same-o like u say can't muster a dammed yard. my hats off to your write up, thanks and yes we will come back and ditch this loss.

RaginCajun83 09-08-2011 11:48 PM

What did Tracy do to get demoted to nickel cb? Did I miss something this offseason? What was up with the corners playing 10-12 yds off almost every play when it seemed like press coverage mixed with a blitz was having some success

Sproles - thanks SD

Drew looked like 08 again, D stunk up the joint minus a few plays

Euphoria 09-08-2011 11:50 PM

It wasn't the Defensive play calling... it was pure and simple we got out played and not enough talent on D than GB does on O.

We could not match up against them at all and they were way better than we were tonight.

Now this is why I don't buy the Cool Aide they sale. Best roster they have had? BS.

GB WR's are awesome and Rodgers geez!

crawgator 09-09-2011 12:02 AM

Well it was a good game even though we lost... What can I say... We had our chances and we blew it.. Our defense well we could have done better, played smarter, tackled better...

But for real we played a very good offense tonight...

they got the breaks and we gave them to the Packers..

Keys to the loss
1) 2 plays into the game we fumble the damn football.. result Green Bay 7 points

2) 4 th and half a dam Football length, and we try to pass it.. come on man. I don't understand that call at all.. I can understand going for it because That would have been my choice as well.. But as my Old coach used to tell us. " If you can't gain a few inches you don't deserve to win". What would I have called , Hmmm probably a QB sneak or Thomas or Inram on a dive play..

3) again we needed 1 yard at the end of the game.. we ran the ball Hmm not saying that isn't what I would have choice to do... but there where better options here, play action , or even a bootleg I think would have done better here, Green Bay had Stacked the middle that time...

I still think we are in good shape for the rest of the season.. Always something to work on. look back at and reflect.. I feel we will see these Packers again in the Playoffs.. Hope so..

GO SAINTS!!!!

Beastmode 09-09-2011 12:10 AM

Driver is almost 38 yrs old! And Nelson, a complete nobody, made him look like Andre Rison. It's going to be a long season if somebody doesn't bat down a ball.

SAINT_MICHAEL 09-09-2011 12:10 AM

"I don't get this site. I post thoughts expressing my feelings about the D and days before the game post this:

*

"I'm not counting on the D stopping them much. A tipped ball here...a lucky strip there maybe, but from what I've seen in the preseason and what I know GB's offense is capable of, Drew and company are going to have to score most times they touch the ball to win. That or special teams will need to provide a spark."

Yet after the game, someone posts about how the D looked bad and everyone agrees and gives thumbs up. Wow. Really observant.

cmike 09-09-2011 12:16 AM

We left 22 points on the field. Can't do that against a team like this and expect to win.

strato 09-09-2011 12:17 AM

Ok SM...we know the D needs work...but i think it will get better with time...we played a great team...they were not much better on D...what you saw was to great offenses with two great QBs.

Remember how bad they embarrassed the Falqueens last year....we didnt get it that bad..and we played on a slippery field...Woodson should have been ejected ..and i saw holds all night ..there was some home cooking going on..

Short sweet and deadly accurate. Can't disagree with any of it at all.
