I think you're right.

Yea, what Hagan said

1. Going down by two scores, hurt. No fault to Colston. The GB DB dotted the "i" of that ball with his helmet. Just a good defensive play on GB's part.

2. Play Calling. I really didn't agree with going for it on 4th down. I see where SP made that call, being that the defense was getting owned by GB and figured they would run the clock out. So damned if you do damned if you don't. If the Saints make the 1st down SP wakes up a brilliant offensive minded coach.

3. O and D Lines....... who is coaching these guys? For Shawn Rogers and Sedrick Ellis to get man handled, just doesn't add up.

As much as the loss kills me as a fan.... I do admire the good things I saw.

1. Darren Sproles was a GREAT pick up. I only saw one mistake in his game last night. He was darn near perfect.

2. PT23 is the #1 RB on this team. Saw a lot of heart from him last night.

3. Devery Henderson IS the #2 WR on this team.

4. The Saints Players never quit. Never hung their heads in early defeat. Even after most of the Saints Fans did. Still had a chance to win in the end.

5. Casallis should be starting. Kid played lights out.

All in all, I really hope they study this game film throughout the year. O and D line really need to evaluate their problems. Patrick Robinson got another B.S. Degree last night. I think he will show what he learned.

Be ready Chi-Town..... There are some Saints that will be out to prove something next week.

Reason(s) for the loss:

Now this was a tall order to geaux to Green Bay against a team jacked up celebrating a Super Bowl victory and to get a win...

And Aaron Rodgers is the best/hottest quarterback on the planet right now...

But these were things that I saw...

(1) Drew Brees hit it right on the head in the post-game press conference - 1 for 5 in the red zone...

(2) Tackling - or lack thereof. I don't care how creative a defensive coordinator is, he's got to make sure his players and position coaches get the basics right...

(3) Interior Offensive Line Play - Fresh, Rookie Running Back; add a 4X's All Pro Center; all built on the top two (2) Guards in the League; and you still can't meet short yardage goals?!? WTF?!?

(4) Seattle really reinforced how to game plan against the Saints secondary and their weakness in coverage...

(5) Linebacker play (all linebackers) was feast or famine, again, and will probably be that way all season; you'd see a great play and the next play the same guy blew assignments or mistackled...

I said to some friends before the game that I thought this game would determine home-field advantage (and in Green Bay's case, really big) for the playoffs...

I don't like the idea of having to geaux to Green Bay after Winterfell...

Not worried, this team destroyed Atlanta last year. We almost pulled it out despite ourselves, play it again and it would be different.

Because they only allow 60 minutes of play. If there were 61 minutes...

Seriously, though...as much as DB and AR were lighting up the scoreboard, it was their running game being more effective than ours that cost us the game...especially in short yardage situations late in the game. Being that they were at home, I will write it off as home-field advantage.

The colston fumble was pivotal. It caused the saints to play catch up the whole game instead of running a balanced attack allowing green bay to control time of posession and making our defense stay on the field most of the game. It caused a tired saint defense that got blown of the line at the point of attack then sloppy tackling down field.
As for the last play of the game, that play was unpaytonlike taking risks and the defense off balance is what he does best. Running it up the middle into the teeth of that defense in lambeau was gonna only have one result.
He hasn't run the play action naked bootleg since buffalo in '08, it would have scored in this situation without a doubt in my mind.

I'm glad that the Saints collectively never did quit trying even during some ["oy vey" "wtf?" "****!"] moments. The Packers are the champs and we spit it on their turf until the end. I'm very hopeful for the season.

That was the "Reality Check" game......

saintsfan1976 09-09-2011 05:16 PM

JP - good points, especially 1, 2, & 3.

Another point; the GB offense's ability to run 9-14 play drives for TD's.

NO pressure. You're darn right Rogers could make surgical passes!!!

BUT

I'm fully confident that this team has the ability to correct it's mistakes.
