Ok i am watching this game for a second time. Hats of to the saints. They did not give up and fought for 4 qtrs, despite themselves. They buried themselves at 14 - 0 and it was a battle up hill from there on. We lost to a great team in their house.

1) Wrap up when tackling - Ok the saints want to make a statement about their new look defense. Well they still lack this basic tackling skills. Way too many times players went for an ESPN highlight hit and end up being the ESPN goat on those highlight reels. No excuses here. Torrence is my example on the kick off but he is not alone. Break out the tackling dummies.

2) Drive low on short yardage - Time and time again i watched the new DL get pushed around becuse they where to high on short yardage and goal line situations. Shawn simple was moved out the way time and time again because he came out of stance to high.

3) Coverage - Ok i have to give a break here. GB has a great WR corp. and Rogers is an excellent QB. Patrick Robinson has a way to go but all in all he looked pretty good. They picked on him, took him to school and he gets a solid C grade. Get some games under his belt and we might have something there. Please check that boys cleats in the next grass game. Then you have Harper. The team he played is the reason i am not going to be too hard on him.

4) Power running game - We are not there at all still. Simple put we lost the battle in the trenches on this side of the ball also. We could not move a great defense.

5) Payton goes for it - Last And finally the key to basic football. You are on the road and playing in a game like this you take points any way possible. Sorry but i grew up hearing this over and over. If you can kick a field goal and keep the game under one possession to win you take the three! We were playing GB in GB and that's hard enough without all the excitement. (See 4 for the in-depth explanation)

AS A TEAM - :itsgood: There is no real reason to hang our heads on this loss. We showed great Intestinal fortitude as a team.

GB is a great team. There is no reason to believe 8 - 1 going into the week 9 game against the Falcons is not possible. With that said I am going to church to light candles that we go into that game without injuries.

For now the main thing to focus on one game at a time

Bring on the bears baby.

Good write up Hagan!

It caused a tired saint defense that got blown of the line at the point of attack then sloppy tackling down field.

I agree. This felt like we lost a set of tennis 7-5 after getting our serve broken early on in the set. Played very well and hung with the Pack, but couldn't break their serve and as a result, they won.

i'm going to finish out the losS by agreeing with the local paper write up and this guy can hammer everything there is to know about what went wrong.
WE WERE A VICTUM OF CIRCUMSTANCE. WE COULD HAVE PUT UP 60 GB WOULD HAVE GOTTEN 61. LETS TAKE IT OUT ON DA BEARS.

Even with the defensive mistakes, the Saints could have actually put up 56 points. I sure hope our defense shows up for the Bears. To be honest, I'm just not sure it was a wise idea getting rid of all these experienced veterans like Pierson Prioleau, Chris Reis, and Alex Brown. An NFL football game is not exactly a good place for on the job training.
