I think our defense gave them hell, actually.
Look at the last Carolina scoring drive. They got 2 timely penalties, but otherwise struggled to find the EZ. Eventually, something's gonna break free, which it did, but I think our D gave em hell. Did you see the hit Vilma put on SCam? After that, he really didnt want any more. If you watch the replay of him throwing the TD, he was all set to flinch, and was expecting to be hit again. They just happened to get one easy opening. They got lucky and they got help, and when it came down to the drive that really mattered, we stuffed em, even with the refs helping them. That last drive wasnt even close to a threat. Also notice on the hail Mary, how we didnt just sit back and rush 3. Newton had no chance. DeAngelo Williams is gonna run somebody over. Steve Smith will bite once. They ran a college trick play. Whoop de doo. Call me crazy, but im seeing this D get better every week. This wont even be a close game when it comes to the Dome. |

Of course, a better question might be where were the DE and OLB on that play, but that's a different thread |

Both were washed way inside, and with Harper blitzing it was an absolutely perfect play call. Even if Harper played Williams, Cam turns it upfield untouched for a huge gain.

Any NFL team could probably pull off the college option play, because it is completely unexpected.
But really, how smart is it to run the option in the NFL? Would you want us doing this with Brees? Jerry Glanville says This aint college, Ron. You're not at a Homecoming. This is the N.F.L, which stands for Not For Long, which will describe SCam Newton's career, if you keep calling plays like that. Newton already got the business end of Jon Vilma on their last scoring drive. Go ahead. Make our day. |
