Great in the pass; bad in the run
Our o-line is great in pass blocking, but we don't open many lanes when it comes to run blocks. Granted you can say its some if the play calls. When you only run off guard with Ingram and Pierre and then toss sweep Sproles, its easy to figure out where we are going with the ball. With all the talk about Nicks and Evans you would think they would be great all around guards. You can get any running back in the world and they wont do anything without some open run lanes.

They aren't great at pass blocking either. They're good, but not great. Drew makes them look much better than they are.

I agree Drew makes alot of players look good. But Evans and Nicks are some good linemen.

When it's crunch time, the o-line don't show up, IMHO. Short yardage? Better have Drew scramble and find an open receiver, 'cause we ain't running it. Seen us stuffed too many times at 3rd & short over the past couple of years, and every team that has an ounce of brains and a decent scouting report knows it.
All it takes is one single breakdown across the line in short yardage for failure. It seems to me our o-line takes turns on which one will be the single point of failure at 3rd & 1, whether it's a false start, a hold, or an unblocked 330lb d-lineman eating up a running back. Just my uneducated opinion, though. If I knew all the answers on the o-line, I'd get my paychecks from the Saints. |
