I have never seen a reciever make so many crutial 3rd down receptions than Joe Horn is doing this year. Everyone knows he is getting the ball and they cant stop it. I have never seen such a dominating performace game in game out than he is putting on this year. I was listening to the broadcast on Sunday and they had the poll for MVP. Not only was Duece not on the list, but neither was Horn. I just dont think people are watching what Im watching on Sundays, because I havent seen 2 people more valuable to their teams than these two. Maybe Im looking through black and gold colored glasses, but Duece is the MVP of the NFL this season with Horn closing in.

I have cast my MVP vote for Horn online only to see that I am a minority. The SAINTS organization doesn\'t even seem to realize what a gem they have in Horn
I have certainly taken notice of his clutch catches on 3rd downs. Brooks seems to know that he\'s the go-to guy in the toughest situations and there is no one I\'d rather see the ball go to on 3rd and long than Horn. I truly believe that Horn is the #1 reason we have been converting somewhere close to 3/4 of our 3rd down situations. Even if he is not the one making the clutch catch, just knowing that he\'s out there and capable of doing it opens up other options. Even with his sure hands on the big plays, he is seldom used in scoring situations, having only made 5 touchdown grabs this year. Stallworth also has 5 and Pathon\'s got 4. Should Brooks look to Horn in/on his way to the endzone more often? Go SAINTS!!!!! David in Houston |

Im trying to find a stat on what percent of Horns catches have resulted in 1st downs. What percent of his catches came on third down. If anyone knows let us know. I would have to say the percentage on both are in the top 5 in the league.

i agree with you guys. Horns percentage would have to be high. As it should be, but remember he\'s been with AB for a while. This is Stallworth and Pathons first year with him. The longer these guys are together the more dangerous they\'ll become. AB knows where Joe will be at any point in time on the field. That comes from experience of the 2 of them being together for so long. Just my thoughts on the subject.

OK, after painstaking research (i.e. reading all the play-by-play for all 9 games), here are the numbers:
Joe Horn Receptions: 55 Third Down Conversions: 55 Joe Horn Third Down Recptions/Conversions: 15 So that\'s 27.27% of both Joe\'s catches and the Saints third down conversions. My number of conversions could be off by one or two either way (sorry I\'m tired) but one quarter of the conversions is alot. And even more evident was the number of additional throws his way that were incomplete on third down. |
