Redskins | Steps Away From Acquiring Jaguars' Brunell - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 17 Feb 2004 21:04:31 -0800

Updating ongoing reports, Pete Prisco, of SportsLine.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB Mark Brunell is only a few minor details away from agreeing to a contract extension with the Washington Redskins that would clear the way for a trade to be completed between the two teams. "We've had some good discussions in the past few days and it's looking like it could get done," Brunell said. "When and if it gets done, I look forward to playing for the Redskins and owner Dan Snyder and coach Joe Gibbs." The contract is believed to be a seven-year deal – not the three-year agreement that had been speculated earlier. In exchange for Brunell, the Jaguars would reportedly receive a third-round pick in this year's draft. The trade cannot be made official until March 3.
If KFFL is right, then the Chargers are in trouble. The next few days could be among the most important in Saints history.

Why is that?

BMG and 08 have some crazy (used lovingly guys) scheme where if Brunnel goes to the Redskins then Ramsey goes to Oakland and the Saints trade Brooks to San Diego for the first pick in the draft and keys to the city or something like that.

WhoDat, I can\'t really speak for 08, but I prefer \"cockamamie scheme\".

It could happen though -- and it would rock!

We either rebuild after getting something for Brooks or we rebuild after we realize Brooks is a dead end and get nothing for him. I\'d just rather get value for him before folks around the league realize that he\'s Kordell Stewart.

The negativity ( or general insanity) is spreading on this web site. You people and you\'re little theories amaze me. I guess you\'ll all be crying in your 08er-aid when Brooks is the starting QB for the Saints next year ( not withstanding injury). I plan to get a chuckle from thinkin\' back to now at the expense of each and every one of you.

You people wanna win NOW and you think Bowman will take you all to the promise land while Eli learns. Here\'s a question for ya\'ll. Do any of you think the Saints have enough money to ink Champ to a long-term deal? If you don\'t (and I\'m sure most of you doubt it) then what makes any of you think they could or would spend what Eli would require...and why in God\'s name SHOULD they spend that much for an unproven commodity? You\'re all insane...fun to read, but insane nonetheless. Beam me up Scotty! Jeesh! :casstet:

Agreed Saintfan. With 20 million of cap room we COULD sign a Wilson-type player, maybe a Springs or Bryant, and a first round DT and second round corner and I\'d be psyched. Otherwise, unless we dump a lot of money somewhere that I don\'t know about, we couldn\'t do much more than that. Maybe a receiver or LT... but that\'s about it. We get those players and if this team isn\'t a real Super Bowl contender, not only should Haslett be fired, he should be dragged through the Quarter by one of those horse carriages.

PS - Let\'s not forget Howard in that list - who may be the most important piece of the defensive puzzle. Also, I read that releasing Carter will free up 3 or 4 million dollars of cap room, so if we sign a big name FA at CB we may be able to pass savings on by dumping Dale.

Yes yes yes yes

Please resign Howard and at least one impact free agent on the defensive side of the ball. One caveat: Do not mortgage the future on one player (ie. Champ Bailey). We have gotten reasonable production out of our first round picks for the last couple of years. I do not want to give up this year\'s first for Bailey when other CBs are available in FA.

Also, is anyone else troubled by Gibbs insistence to have Brunnell over Ramsey? I was impressed when I watched Ramsey last season, especially given the circumstances and his supporting cast. Gibbs is a big pass protection guy, too, right? Don\'t you think Ramsey would flourish in a Gibbs system with a real running game?

Oh well, Gibbs does have a couple more Super Bowl rings than me.
