Owens defends agent By Cam Inman CONTRA COSTA TIMES Wide receiver Terrell Owens came to the defense of his agent Friday despite having missed a deadline to void his contract with the 49ers and become a free agent next week. "I can assure you that neither my agent nor myself made a mistake like this," Owens said on Sporting News Radio's "James Brown Show." "For people to go out and say my agent made a mistake is utterly ridiculous and insane. "This is something we've talked about throughout the course of the season and since the season has ended. There are two sides to every story. They're going with the story right now that my agent, David Joseph, didn't file paperwork, in which we did." Joseph notified the 49ers on Wednesday of Owens' intention to void the remaining three years on his contract, but the deadline had been moved up to Feb. 21 and the league ruled Thursday that Owens remains property of the 49ers through 2006. Owens said he doesn't envision himself staying with the 49ers and called into question the team's direction. Not even the possible release of quarterback Jeff Garcia -- whom he feuded with last season and criticized last month on his Web site -- is apparently enticing for Owens. http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/...ts/8064685.htm Does anyone else have the feeling that with the lack of attention Meshawn Johnson received around the league , that Owens decided he had better stay put in Frisco or lose some serious money ??? |
