Question... Sir Saint

Hello to all - I looked online & got a partial answer.

SO... I thought I would go to the experts.

Sir Saint/Big Chin Guy. I kindof like him!!

Where did he come from? (& when)

Then where did he go...?

Why is he back...?

Also why isn't Gumbo a real St Bernard anymore??

Thanks in advance!!

He was just a logo starting off but became a mascot in the early days. The organization still cannot figure out who they want to be our mascot so they just keep both.

Pretty hot for someone to have a St. Bernard in New Orleans. Wouldn't be fair to the dog unless the Saints get some LSU money and build him a million dollar climate control dog pen area.

St. Bernard Parish, home of the Slidell Fighting Nutria, was the inspiration for selecting the breed a long time ago. The dog is the natural enemy of the bayou pest, and serves as a reminder to visiting teams of what we really say about them behind their backs.

BTW, St. Bernard Parish is also the home of the Chalmations of Chalmette and the Violations of Violet.

Best information I can find is that Sir Saint was a creation from an artist that was a friend of John Mecom's wife, the first owner. Since the Saints and I were created the same year I can't remember how he was chosen only that as far back as I can remember he was around.

The character looks similar to the style of the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show IMO.
