Rather have it next year. And a few other thoughts.

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Yea, plus after not getting the 7 points immediately, and losing Thomas to a head-butt, that I've read since my last post, was apparently legal, we became on entirely one-dimensional team. And we paid for it on a few drives, ...

All of this attack on Greg Williams is unwarranted. I'm not sure how you could watch a game with 5 turnovers, and think "God the Defense sucked." The defense was the only thing that kept us in the game, and if we hadn't had the fumbles, we'd have won.

I mean how often do you actually have a guy knocked out on the 3 yard-line, after driving all the way down the field? That's just bad luck. Anyone hear anything about that? Is he OK, Pierre? I was kind of surprised he didn't come back. His running style is clearly what we were lacking, the get hit, yet get a few more yards, somehow, even though it looks like he's down.

The Sproles and Roby fumbles are what I'd like to have back. We just usually don't make those kind of mistakes, being careless with the ball on special teams. Rest of the game we did what we could. Something was missing on offense - #16 and #23. The Niners defense played out of their minds. But again we did what we could.

I can't be embarrased by this loss. Last year was a lot tougher to swallow.
Brees had 462 yards and 4 TD. How on earth do we still lose? Major holes in our def strategy. It hasn't been just this game and its become clear that this is what has killed us the last two years. Our offense has disguised how bad our defense is for some time now.

how did we lose you ask??? TURNOVERS....every NFL coach you ever hear will tell you that the turnover battle is what wins games...we lost the battle badly...and almost still won...now for the defense:::when you consider the turnovers and the short field SF got to have the whole game, our defense was pretty damn good....but not great...our LB's(esp vilma) are slow...Vilma has bad knees...he is done and one or 2 great hits in the game dont make up for that....THE LAST 40 SECONDS OF THE GAME SEALED GW's FATE...YOU CANT RUN A DEFENSE THAT ALLOWS THE BEST WEAPON ON THE OTHER TEAM(V.D.) TO HAVE THOSE OPPORTUINITIES TO BEAT US WITH 40 SECONDS LEFT AND ALEX SMITH AS QB...that was F****** pitiful
GW needs to go
Boutte and Rueben Mayes like this.

perception IS reality

What you're saying, of course, is true. The sticking point comes when the game is on the line. With Veron Davis running wild and free, the 49ers go to the air and burn us to a cinder. GW, predictably, spends the entire fourth quarter in one continual blitz package, no nickel or dime, no safety help, no double coverage, EVEN ON DAVIS. And the blitz doesn't put pressure on the QB anyway. So a very mediocre OL and a very pedestrian offense and an very game-managing quarterback lay 36 points on our defense. We need a pass rushing front 4 / front 7. We need to start shutting down other teams' running games before the second quarter. We need to take care of the ball on offense and special teams. AND WE NEED A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR WHO RELIES ON SOLID PLAY-CALLING AND PLAYER TALENT RATHER THAN GIMMICKS AND SLEIGHT-OF-HAND. TRANSLATED: A DIFFERENT DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.

Agreed, just don't agree with the D calls when we went up with 1:37 left. What happened to avoid the big play, keep them in from of you and in bounds?
