I am hoping the reason they weren't very good is because they had a severe lack of talent and that we just had bad schemes that included our DBs being left on islands for way too long... |

If I remember correctly, the Rams' secondary did actually pretty well last season considering they had a lot of injuries to the projected starters - it was the run defense that was much worse than the pass defense. The Rams' D was #8 in receiving yards allowed with 222.6 yards/game - that is over 50 yards less than what the Saints' secondary had. The Rams' D was #23 in interceptions with 12 for the season - only 3 better than the #28 Saints. The Rams' D was #7 in total passing yards allowed with 3,301 yards, while the Saints' D was #30 with 4,157 yards - although teams threw more against the Saints' D (for obvious reasons) with an average of 39 throws/game as opposed to the 30 throws/game for the Rams. So, going by stats alone it seems that Spags D schemes with Flajole's coaching was better than the level at which the Saints' secondary played - especially considering they had those injuries to deal with. |
