The little man in my head tells me to worry about bringing in more Rams coaches; because after all, they really weren't that good.

But the kid in me, feels like I'M STANDING ON A MOUNTAIN TOP IN HOLAND! (That means happy; in case you haven't seen a York Peppermint Patty commercial)

+1

I am hoping the reason they weren't very good is because they had a severe lack of talent and that we just had bad schemes that included our DBs being left on islands for way too long...

But we hired their HC to be our DC.

Thats not apples to apples.

If I remember correctly, the Rams' secondary did actually pretty well last season considering they had a lot of injuries to the projected starters - it was the run defense that was much worse than the pass defense.

The Rams' D was #8 in receiving yards allowed with 222.6 yards/game - that is over 50 yards less than what the Saints' secondary had.

The Rams' D was #23 in interceptions with 12 for the season - only 3 better than the #28 Saints.

The Rams' D was #7 in total passing yards allowed with 3,301 yards, while the Saints' D was #30 with 4,157 yards - although teams threw more against the Saints' D (for obvious reasons) with an average of 39 throws/game as opposed to the 30 throws/game for the Rams.

So, going by stats alone it seems that Spags D schemes with Flajole's coaching was better than the level at which the Saints' secondary played - especially considering they had those injuries to deal with.

To elaborate some more on the Rams secondary troubles this past season:

Ronald Bartell, who probably is their #1 CB fractured his neck in week 1 and consequently missed the rest of the season.

Bradley Fletcher, their #1 CB after Bartell went out suffered himself a torn ACL in week 4 and missed the rest of the season because of it.

Graig Dahl, their top FS suffered a concussion and missed 3 games because of it.

There were number of other DBs, who got injured during the season some of whom missed only a game or two, but many more who were put on IR.

This article gives a pretty good picture of the season their secondary had injury-wise and mind you - it was from November:

Rams add tackle, place another corner on IR

The St. Louis Rams reached double figures in cornerbacks placed on the injured reserve list when Marquis Johnson received that designation on Tuesday.

Johnson suffered what originally was described as an abdominal contusion in Sunday's 24-7 loss to Seattle and was hospitalized Monday night for observation and additional examination. It turns out Johnson has a lacerated spleen.

According to league sources, Johnson will not need surgery, just rest and recovery time. He becomes the 10th cornerback placed on IR by the Rams this season.

The Rams filled Johnson's spot on the active roster by signing offensive tackle Thomas Welch off Buffalo's practice squad. Welch, 6-6, 300, played his college ball at Vanderbilt. He spent part of 2010 with Minnesota and appeared in three games earlier this season for New England including a Week 4 start against Oakland.

Welch was at Rams Park last week for a tryout. So was cornerback Kendric Burney, who has been added to the Rams' practice squad this week, filling the void created when offensive tackle Kevin Hughes was promoted to the active roster Saturday. Burney is an undrafted rookie from North Carolina who spent training camp with the Carolina Panthers this summer.

And we thought the Saints have had bad luck with secondary injuries...
