There will be no "I'll ltake a little less so you can sign Colston and Nicks".

Disagree.
Drew took on the leadership role for the NFLPA and spoke for the rights of his fellow players.
At the time of the lockout there were two sides: Owners and Players. Arguing for the players and against the owners doesn't translate to throwing anyone under the bus. It's considered negotiations.

I haven't yet got the notion that Drew will "milk the Saints." He has made it clear that he wants to retire as a Saints player which only harms his value. Also, his desire to win is matched by very few athletes. I can see him playing for less to help maintain a winning atmosphere.

And at the time of his contract negotiations there are two sides. Brees and Ownership.

And he damn sure did throw ownership under the bus several times during the CBA negotiations. I was extremely disappointed in many of his statements.

Brees will not sign a franchise tag. He also learned a valuable lesson from Manning who went with less money to keep some players. I bet he regrets that move now that they are throwing him out like trash.

What do you mean by "Brees will not sign a franchise tag?"

Do you mean that he will work out a deal before it comes to that point?

Or do you mean he will rather retire from the NFL if the Saints put the tag on him?

Because as far as I'm aware, a player cannot refuse a franchise tag because the whole "Brady anti-trust" thing wasn't included in the final CBA.

I must have a short memory. I remember Brees, Manning, and Saturday standing up for something they believed in and working to achieve a goal. That's a simplistic recollection, I suppose. I was just eager for the season to start and was happy that the drama was over.

What did he say to set you off?

He wants a lot of money. So it takes some time to negociate that big of a contract. It has to be right on all sides.

Did Brees ever say what he wanted his salary to be as he was saying that he wanted to retire a Saint? The reason I'm asking is because the part he may be leaving out is "providing they pay me what I think I am worth."

...and, if somebody told him that he could possibly be the first "200 million baby"...then, yes...I would want to retire a Saint, too, if they were willing to pay me that kind of money.
