Exactly - we'd have to trade someone like Ellis and a fourth to swap into the mid second round in the hopes of getting him...

RaginCajun83 04-11-2012 07:55 AM

I wouldn't mind the Saints taking him in the 3rd if they think he is BPA besides him, Spence and Kendricks ... who else would be there in the 3rd and make an immediate impact on defense, I just love Wolfe because he seems like a guy that Spags could help reach his full potential

Saints got lucky that in a year where they don't pick till the 3rd, there will be some outstanding defensive talent still on the board, I wouldn't even mind them selecting a corner if they feel he's BPA, just use the pick on defense

Kheeston Randall
Akiem Hicks (might be a steal in the lower rounds, but a project for sure)
Derek Wolfe (might be my favorite and could be available in the 6th, has the ability to line up on various spots which should make Spags happy - DT/DE hybrid of sorts)

This still holds true, although losing the 2nd round pick has hurt the Saints' chances coupled with the fact that Wolfe's stock has risen a lot since February.

But, in any case, any of these three guys would provide the Saints with a young talented/mobile/tall DT, which they've lacked in past seasons - much like what Spags had in NY with Canty.

Will we see trades of players for draft picks?!?

This is who I'm liking this week...

***Updated***

JP's 2012 Saints Mock Draft

R3 Josh Norman, DB, Coastal Carolina

R4 Brandon Hardin, SS, Oregon State

R5 Tank Carder, OLB, TCU

R6 Elvis Fisher, OT, Missouri

R6 Blake Decristopher, OT, Virginia Tech

R6 Travian Robertson, DT, South Carolina

R7 David Paulson, TE, Oregon

CheramieIII 04-21-2012 09:42 AM

R2 Saints trade pick 3 in the 6th and our round four pick to New England and pick JANORIS JENKINS, CB, North Alabama. I know the guy has had alot of off field problems but he's a first round talent and a steal for us.
R3 Brandon Tyler, FS, LSU. Another head hunter on the D.
R5 Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas. 4.39 40 to replace Meacham oh yea!
R6 Garth Gerhart, C/G, Arizona State. Not the best yet but never gives in. Will take a couple of seasons to develop.
R6 Micanor Regis, DT, Miami. Has the size but needs some work.
R7 Jaime Blatnick, DE Oklahoma St. Developmental player but has the motor and smart.

I want the Coastal Carolina CB and Baptiste at DT

FinSaint 04-21-2012 09:55 AM

The Saints only have 5 picks in this year's draft, right?

3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th - because that other 6th round pick from the 'Skins isn't happening as the conditions weren't met by Jammal Brown.

I believe you're correct!

I seriously doubt that Josh Norman will still be available in the 3rd when we pick... even though he is projected as a 3rd rounder

No DT?!

Sorry, but I can't agree with that seeing as this year you can get a good DT even with a low pick and the Saints desperately need depth at DT.

I'd think we definitley target some of them, but we've all seem Loomis pass up need for BPA before.

I have a feeling though that in round 3 there should be a few DT's that are probably also BPA.

And I'd imagine Spags has a list of journeyman DT's that can fill out a rotation just fine if we need it.

I agree and I do also think that some DTs will be the BPA at some point in the draft when the Saints are picking.

CheramieIII 04-22-2012 09:25 AM

Just going on our track record and all of these players would be BPA. Like Danno said I think we'll find an undrafted guy or 2 or a unsigned fa to fill the void cheap rotational players are easy to find

jeanpierre 04-22-2012 10:29 AM

Cher'? Jenkins?

Waaay too much baggage - let 'em geaux to the Cowboys or Jets...

Especially with Coach Payton stuck in the Phantom Zone 0.72 Krypton years....

OK, fair enough, but I do believe that some DTs will be the BPA when the Saints are picking and I have to believe that the need for a quality DT to develop under Spags will be greater than for another WR.

With this year's DT class it would make much more sense to pick a young DT who can make the transition to being a starter in a fairly short period of time seeing as Ellis is entering his last year under contract and all other DTs except for Bunkley are still very unproven and unexperienced.

I think it's much easier to find a quality UDFA WR if that is in fact what they are looking for, and like it has been said before - having a strong interior D-line will have a positive trickle down effect on the DBs.

jeanpierre 04-23-2012 10:11 PM

Wolfe has been the only DT that I like that is getting any noise right now and he's moving up the charts out of the Saints picking range...

Billy Winn DE/DT from Boise State I have seen mentioned in a few mock drafts for us. He should be available in the 3rd when we pick. He looks to have a lot of potential!

So, another hybrid DE/DT. He seems promising on paper and I do think that the versatility these hybrids like Wolfe and Winn have will be a plus in Spags' schemes, because he likes to move those front 4 guys around a lot.

lsutigerfan 04-24-2012 04:48 PM

Would love to see Derek Wolfe, but I doubt it. Give me either.

Derek Wolfe DT-Cinncinati
Josh Chapman DT-Alabama
Travis Lewis LB-Oklahoma

Understanding BPA is how you continually improve a roster - if there are options and you look at the Saints roster these are guys that could be available when the Saints pick that could make a positive impact and meet needs on this team...

Guys I wish we could draft are Derek Wolfe, Mychal Kendricks, Reuben Randle, Bobby Massie, Bobby Wagner, Terrell Manning, Brandon Taylor, Markele Martin and Amini Silatolu...

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:17 PM

We've been punished by not having a pick till round 3 - Rodge, you suecketh!

|Mitch| 04-27-2012 09:19 PM

scratch Hardin off your list jeanpierre...

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:21 PM

I know...I know...

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:24 PM

Come on Baltimore & pick it already!

|Mitch| 04-27-2012 09:25 PM

the last few picks are taking so long

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:27 PM

Berman makes it long with dejected draft picks and their girlfriends that try to break Guiness Records for the longest, fake schiott-eating broadcast pseudo-supportive smiles...

lsutigerfan 04-27-2012 09:28 PM

Please give me Brandon Thompson!!!! I wouldn't mind Dwight Bentley.

|Mitch| 04-27-2012 09:28 PM

I'd rather listen to Mayock then ESPN

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:29 PM

Look fwd to grading Lions draft in a couple of years

|Mitch| 04-27-2012 09:29 PM

no more Bentley

lsutigerfan 04-27-2012 09:30 PM

Brandon Thompson or Jared Crick

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:31 PM

Wonder why Crick has slipped?

WhoDatMartin 04-27-2012 09:32 PM

Never been this excited for a 3rd round pick before, haha.

|Mitch| 04-27-2012 09:32 PM

jeanpierre 04-27-2012 09:35 PM

Neaux, that's 'bout right

iceshack149 04-27-2012 09:36 PM

We're up!
