2012 Draft - Saints Mock Drafts
I'll kick it off...
2012 Saints Mock Draft R2 Bobby Wagner, OLB, Utah St R3 Josh Norman, DB, Coastal Carolina R4 Andrew Datko, OT, FSU R5 Tim Benford, WR, Tn Tech R6 Tyler Nielsen, OLB, Iowa R6 Travian Robertson, DT, So Carolina R6 Antoine McClain, OG, Clemson R7 Tank Carder, OLB, TCU Come on Hagan, whatcha got? |
I repeat:
Round 2: LB Donta Hightower Round 3: DL Jared Crick Round 4: S Markelle Martin Round 5: DL Derek Wolfe Round 6: TE Ladarius Green Round 7: LB Adrien Cole |
And:
Round 6: WR Gerell Robinson. |
OK. I'll give it a try...
2nd to 7th round: BPA |
It typically is... regardless of position. It's got us where we are today... contenders.

i would love the pick of Ladarius Green but theres no way hes making it to the 6 round he'll be long gone before that

Best LB'er available or best DT available.

I would love them to draft a tall DT like, Kheeston Randall Akiem Hicks (might be a steal in the lower rounds, but a project for sure) Derek Wolfe (might be my favorite and could be available in the 6th, has the ability to line up on various spots which should make Spags happy - DT/DE hybrid of sorts) |

Hightower is a top 25 pick. No way we see him with our 2nd round pick.
Here's my mock: 2nd - Vinny Curry DE/LB or Rueben Randle WR (if we lose Colston) 3rd - Shayne Skov LB 4th - Cordarro Law DE/LB or Jonathon Massaquoi DE 5th - Ladarius Green TE 6th - Ron Brooks CB 7th - BPA |
Green might not last to the 6th...
A Colston departure would affect the draft and Randle would be a steal that late in the second round... |
2012 Saints Mock Draft

I say we do, what we gotta do to get hightower..... That man is a game changer, and will be a beast at the next level....

You have two of the tall DTs I was hoping they'd go after. Do you really think Wolfe should be taken as high as that? I've seen him projected as going as low as the 6th round in some evaluations, none that I've seen have had him going higher than the 4th. Wolfe could be very similar to the type of a DT Chris Canty is for the Giants and could, therefore, be a player type that Spags would like to have. |

I tend to agree as Randle is that kind of talent... |
Randle could have been a 1st rounder if LSU had a QB to throw him the ball, I could see him drop to middle of the 2nd round

I'd be really surprised to see him available where our current pick is in round 2

Getting a new defensive front seven and safeties... Then I wake up when this lawyer named Slick Rick hands me the bill! |
This is the guy I want them to get! (check out the clothesline at 1:30)
Spags could mold this guy into a pass rushing monster who could line up in any defensive front spot. |
I'm all for drafting Wolfe. If Hightower isn't there and we end up drafting Crick in the 2nd and Wolfe in the third, instead of the 3rd and 5th, then I still think we've gotten two steals.
|
It would actually be awesome if the Saints could maybe get Ronnell Lewis, the Oklahoma LB/DE in the 2nd round (it is a stretch he'll be available) and then get Derek Wolfe (DT/DE) in the 3rd round.
Those would be two great tacklers and couple of guys who could line up in various positions and spots in the front 7, which should make Spags happy. |

Some more guys I like:
DE Whitney Mercilus 6'4" 265lbs (Doubt he'll still be there in round 2 though) DT Alameda Ta'amu 6'3" 341lbs (Maybe an option in round 3) SS Harrison Smith 6'2" 212lbs (A friend of mine thinks he'll be the best safety in the draft. Another round 3 option) WR Gerell Robinson 6'3" 223lbs (round 5-6 A late round replacement for Colston?) RB/WR/KR Chris Rainey 5'8" 178 (with his speed/big play ability, hard to pass in round 5 or later) LB Vontaze Burfict 6'3" 250lbs (I remember someone on here wanting him, could be a steal in round 3 or later. I saw a projection of him in the 3rd) TE Michael Egnew 6'5" 245lbs (Could be an outstanding pick in the 5th. I doubt TE is a big enough need to draft earlier) I guess thats all for now. |
I think that the trend this year will be on big TEs like Egnew, because all the teams want to have a Graham/Gronskowski/Hernandez type of a TE, so their value will probably be inflated.
Also, if they were to pick a safety, I would like them to look for more of a FS type, because I firmly believe that Abdul-Quddus is the one who'll take over from Harper when that time comes around. And, on the other hand, while Amaya is a really good special teams player and a capable FS backup, I don't know if he can ever become a legitimate starter at FS. |

Judging from everyone freaking out lately here's mine. Round 1 (traded next two years 1st and picks 2-7) QB AnDrew Luck |
Quote:
There'd be absolutely no pressure for him to succeed after that trade up, and he'd probably turn into another Matt "Skidmark" Ryan because of it. But no one could say it wasn't a bold move by the Saints' FO! |

Well Mayock didn't have him even among the top 8 or so DT prospects, so there's a lot of talent to go around in the DT position. |
Any DT or 2 that can push the pocket and get after the qb. stuff the run and basically do their job, I don't care what the name is or when we get them in the draft, I want them. If he would be an UFA it would be fine as long as the middle of the D can push that damn pocket period. One quality MLB or OLB and we should be set.

BTW, I would really like to do the B&G 1st round mock draft again like we did some years ago. I'll be the Vikings again ... last time I picked Adrian Peterson and then they picked AP IRL!

Vikings are too easy! They'll take Kalil for sure if St. Louis doesn't pick him before them or some other team doesn't trade up to get him. |
