Since successful teams can't hold on to all of their star players - draft picks, UDFAs and evaluation of potential FA signings becomes more important. A team doesn't need to sign the highest payed FA in a given position, just the FA who provides the most value and fits the team's system. This is where the Patriots and BB have and will continue to be successful, and where Loomis has also shown his abilities. The fact that the new CBA brought down the draft pick salaries, especially for the 1st round picks, will help teams to concentrate more on building their success through the draft. |
