There is a clear disconnect between the media and reality right now.
While getting a reward for hurting someone is pretty barbaric, and not deserving of praise or leniency, it is about as harmful in the context of the NFL as a racist joke: Classless and offensive, true, but actually harmful? No.
Also, we don't know the full story, the pay-offs could have been $2000 for a big hit, -500 for an injury and -1000 for a cart-off, for all we know.

Dude you ain't kidding. My disgust with what the Saints have done with this whole situation pales when I think about how sick I am of watching the media sensationalize this thing. Otherwise 'respected' NFL reporters all calling for people's jobs and seeking in some cases to BAN all in the name of getting you to click an ad on their effing web site. That they would be willing to sensationalize for a buck is every bit as devoid of moral fiber as any system that pays a defensive player a meaningless amount for a big hit.
