Hell, makes everyone in the organization bolt upright and alert! (ahem, that means you, Drew...) |

no way Peyton would be able to get that kind of money, coming off numerous surgeries this past year...

I am on the fence with this one but I say no.
We'd have the same problem with Manning as Drew. Money is going to be a lot and we tagged Drew to save some money so far. Both players have 2-3 years left max I figure. I keep Drew tag him another year and then ask him to retire so we can move on. |

The only way I'd see this as worth while would be if PM was actually (guaranteed) healthy enough to play at his pre-injury level, and if the Saints were able to make a trade for Brees and get the two 1st rounders in return for him - since exclusive rights FA doesn't mean that the team holding the rights can't negotiate with other teams.
Under those circumstances I'd see the trade as a definite possibility, because like already stated, PM would come with baggage and, therefore, he would undoubtedly sign for less than Brees. Also, the Saints might then bring in Wayne and Garcon to replace Colston and Meachem, although that would be a downgrade. |

Sounds like a real fairytale story because Manning is from NOLA.
But what if he's hurt to where he can't play an entire season? No one has seen him throw a pass since his 4th surgery on his neck... |

FWIW...I heard somewhere that Peyton was willing to restructure his contract in a way where he would be paid minimal or even no guaranteed money and have it all structured on performance. I don't know whether he was referring to for the Colts or anyone...but at that price it would be a decent deal.
I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't offer that to the Saints unless Drew was out of the picture...and I don't think he has time to wait to see how that is all gonna unfold. |
