I'm not totally convinced that the Saints will be cutting Vilma, because it all depends on what type of a punishment (if any) he'll get for his involvement in the BountyGate, and what his health situation is now and going forward. Like I've already stated in other threads, if Vilma gets a year-long suspension, financially the best course of action for the Saints would be to keep him as a player, because that way they'd free up the most salary cap room. If he can play at (at least) a 95% level this coming season and he doesn't get suspended, I do think that the Saints should go forward with him as the starting MLB, because once again it would probably end up being financially the best way to go. Jonathan Vilma playing at a 100% health level (i.e. 2009) would definitely be worth the $6.6M cap hit, IMO. |
