You ask "Where's the money coming from"? Very easy, it is coming from the future.
Right now the Saints are still legit Super Bowl contenders. At this point Loomis is wise to keep pushing the cap dollars back as far as he can. Eventually, the price needs to be paid. Give it about 2 seasons and the Saints will have to go into a full rebuild mode. |

"where is the money coming from?"
It is pretty obvious -- the Saints are preparing for massive suspensions on defense, and if they are signed, some of those new guys will be paid by money that is NOT being paid to suspended players. I would not be surprised at all, if there are massive sweeping cuts of players on defense this off season, a huge house-cleaning, cutting the players who may be facing long unproductive suspensions next season; and then signing their replacements with more "cap friendly" contracts (bonuses, delayed payments, etc) and just eating the cap hits of the people who got cut, but not paying the salaries. At least that's how I interpret it. I think the Saints may have an idea of who is going to be suspended, but not for how long. And now that they saw what happened to Payton with the harsh penalties (entire year) they are probably looking at re-tooling the whole defense, bracing for long suspensions of players far worse than what they might have anticipated from Goodell previously. They will probably have to part ways with some of them. |

Well, look on the bright side. On a positive note, Roman Harper will probably be suspended for the year too so we'll get some better play there.
