Rugby start trys out with Saints/others

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Wasn't there a similar guy we were talking about last off-season? Or was it the same guy? Anyway, I'll reserve my judgment until RugbySaint has had his say on this matter, and then I can just mimic his response and ...

I would like to know what position he played in rugby. He's obviously a forward and plays in the scrum.(the big boys)
My guess is he was a flanker(hit man) or an eight man(the big ball mover).

If he played flanker I would try him at OLB or DE because he is used to closing on the ball and making a sure tackle. It's also one of the simplest positions to pick up.

If he was an eight man I think he could play TE because he's used to moving with the ball through numerous big bodies and he has the basketball back ground that develops good hand eye coordination.

This will be an interesting turn of events. It is hard as hell to break a football players habits so they don't get penalized with a different set of rules when they start rugby.

The fact that he was chosen to play by the US Eagles so quickly after learning the game speaks volumes. I hope he makes it.

EDIT: Also, Thomas Morestead was a rugby player.

If this could work it would be great to build a real no-name defense again. Just think how many more teams and fans would hate us than hate us now. Wouldn't that be wonderful. We are really ging to need some highly motivated overachievers to get it done on defense this year.
