That strange wording in the Saints' official statement yesterday, about "severe penalties facing our club as proposed by the NFL" was a big red flag that makes me think they will appeal.
You're good man.

Here's the thing: Payton or Loomis, if they appeal, can only appeal to the Commissioner according to the (CBA I think it was). It's in the contracts. So it's unlikely he hands out a suspension then lessens his ruling.

The PLAYERS on the other hand are represented by a union and can appeal outside of the commissioner.

I don't see either wasting time on an appeal. Also, James Varney and I spoke yesterday and we agreed it didn't make much sense for the NFL to suspend Loomis. They simply did it "without pay" as a sort of fine. It won't effect contract negotiations or anything because there's actually multiple people who help negotiate contracts. Loomis is just the "best" and has the "final word" in a way.

These are my thoughts on Carmichael being HC.....he's gonna do a fantastic job this yr (cause we're STILL gonna win the show this yr!!) and then we'll lose him next yr to another team who'll want him as their HC.

Apparently Sean Payton has mentored him well and should entrust him with his playbook since he helped architect must of it.

How do you know that?

SP seems to me like a guy who constructs his plays on his own, and then maybe modifies them according to the opponent and the gameplan negotiations with Brees (and Carmichael) before gameday.

I very much doubt that Carmichael helps him to architect the playbook, because that is the area where SP excels, and he is the primary signal caller for the offense.

Well however they do it, or who does what, the offense REALLY took off after Carmichael got here, no question about that. 2006-2008 was like, polite, oh yes, Saints, that's a really good offense. 2009 to now is like, WOW, THIS THING IS INSANELY SCARY GOOD, like when Kool Aid Man busts through the wall.

But, just because some events coincide doesn't mean that they are correlated.

Maybe it just took SP a couple of years to fine tune his craft, get the right personnel needed to carry out what he wanted to do on the field, and get that personnel to play within his system?

I don't want to take anything away from Carmichael, but at the same time I do think that most of the credit for how the offense has played and will carry on playing has to go to SP.

BTW, I highly recommend his book "Home Town" to anyone who hasn't already read it, because on top of being a really good book, it represents a more personal view of who SP is behind the media facade.
