Duke Naipohn says Gregg Williams speech being taken out of context

Duke Naipohn, CEO of Sleep Pointe, was in the locker room when Gregg Williams gave a speech that is now being used as evidence of the bounty scandal.

Naipohn said the clips of that speech that are being used are not necessarily representative of the whole speech. He said that Williams didn’t talk about bounties. Naipohn said that the meeting was 15 minutes long and the video is just over three minutes long.

Naipohn said that the NFL interviewed him and asked specifically about the Packers and Panthers games from last season.

Naipohn said that the Saints didn’t have bounties as they’ve been described. He thinks the NFL overreacted and once the momentum started building it became bigger.

Naipohn explained he was never a Saints employee, he was doing a research project on sleep with the team.

Naipohn said that he’s the only non-NFL and non-team employee who can comment on this. “I was in every one of those meetings except for two,” Naipohn said. “That’s not how it went down.”

Ya know, in the beginning I was just upset that we were being singled out and excessively punished. I didn't think that there was much to defend the allegations, it just sucked that there seemed to be a lot of evidence that other teams were doing this and not getting a sniff from Roger.

But now, there is an awful lot of compelling evidence, eyewitness accounts, that suggest this "bounty" thing never reached the point that we have previously been made to believe. I think we are victims of a DC who might have used language just a bit more over the top than others, but the overall intent was never much, if any different from any other team.

If the league had any interest in truly getting to the bottom of this, we might have actually been able to overturn these penalties... It's too bad we already know that won't happen.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Let me just make it clear, though, that I still don't like Gregg and always thought he was a jerk and an overrated Defensive Coordinator. But this has been way overblown.

I'm still waiting for proof that any of our players actually "swept the leg".

Its locker room bravado, no more no less, and no one has proof otherwise.

His words were definitely out of context. GW uses alot of metaphors. Vilma explained that in The America's Game. "Kill the head and the body will die" I highly doubt he saying go out there and get a bunch of helmet to helmet penalties. Its a figure of speech, I've heard that phrase before this.
