The Drew Brees Story and how he became a Saint

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; A good read, but the ending just cracked me up... Luckily for Drew and anyone with a heart, it was a success for everyone involved. Philip Rivers got his chance to shine and has become one of the league's best ...

Luckily for Drew and anyone with a heart, it was a success for everyone involved. Philip Rivers got his chance to shine and has become one of the league's best QBs. Pairing him with Norv Turner is almost as good of a match as pairing Drew Brees with Sean Payton. The city of San Diego continues to watch their team have success and play postseason football annually, and the city of New Orleans got to forget about their troubles for a few weeks while the Saints took them on a ride to the Championship.

You've got to be kidding me, Rivers is not one of the top QBs in the league and I don't care what anyone says about it, he just doesn't have the mental attributes to become an elite QB, IMO.

And to compare the success of Turner and Rivers to what Payton and Brees have had is just as ludicrous.

Anyway, whatever the article says, Schottenheimer and Smith both have to take their share of the blame, and I wouldn't give Smith as high of a grading of how he managed the situation with Brees and Rivers as the author does.

... I thought it was an interesting read also, and they did use the phrase 'almost as good' when comparing the Turner/River match to Payton/Brees ... though I didn't catch it the first time around and had a little chuckle over that one myself, ... Turner/Rivers may get you to the playoffs every year, but you'll eventually be at home watching the SuperBowl ... tommorrow is Norv Turners birthday, just FYI in case anyone wants to pop on over to the Chargers site and wish him a happy birthday, .

I just wish he stays as the HC for as long as possible, so the Chargers won't be a contender for the foreseeable future.

Oh, and even with the "almost as good" it's still a huge exaggeration!

I'm just glad Smith lets these FAs walk down to NOLA to make themselves superstars with the Saints.

BTW, Schottenheimer won his first pro football championship as a HC last year with the Virginia Destroyers over at the UFL.

Yeah, talk about winning the big one on prime-time... in a league with 4 teams.
